-looks back at my post from yesterday- Sometimes you just cold call em I guess... And aside from the guy shown, there appear to be four variations of infantry per the trailer. Of course no idea yet if these are special characters etc or 'just' differently equipped versions of the same unit type. 1: Pistol and some sort of hammer. 2: Rifle and what looks like a pickaxe. 3: Pistol and what appears to be a servo-arm extending over his head. 4: Rifle but seems to have some sort of shoulder-mounted camera/gun/whatever.

Anyone interested in speculating wildly about how they will play? Some sort of mix between guard, tau, and gsc? I'm imagining a bit more on the elite side. Small numbers, good tech. They're dwarves, so you pretty much have to lean into the miner aesthetic. Melee drones/drill bots?
I know people will jump on them for vibe and aesthetic alone, but I do wonder how GW will hammer out a unique identity for them rules-wise.
Wasn't an army I was clamouring for, but I'm certainly interested in seeing how their reimagining pans out.

GSC style (drills, mining weaponry etc.) with heavier armor, better weapons, and some heresy style weaponry like volkites.

My guess? The League being a shooting based army that needs transports to get around the battlefield in a hurry (dwarves are not fast on their feet). However unlike IG and similar factions, these guys are pretty good in a melee fight; but unlike say space marines, they aren't good at offensive melee tactics. So for instance other than a couple of special units, you don't want to charge the enemy, but if charged they can reliably punch their way out of a fight (or have a bunch of guns they can shoot in melee). So while they might have a bit of trouble getting to a point on the battlefield; once they get there, they are very hard to budge.
As for the vehicles, it'll probably depend on the 'theme' GW goes for. Because WHF dwarves (and the previous Squats from what I understand) were all about the heavy artillery and bombardment weapons. Though looking at the armor designs I can't help but be reminded of the Starcraft marines.

Whatever they do I hope its visually and thematically different than the 'metal boxes with guns' design the Imperium uses so much.

The difficult thing is, it's hard to get an army with a completely different playstyle to everything else out there... would take some creative thinking to get around the "oh so it's like _______ but dwarves?"

I'm going to weigh in here and say this is one of the more lack luster and unimaginative things GW has pushed. I was super excited to see a new codex but this feel so much like another shade of beige. Cool some more power amour that's slight different...maybe? Probably still imperium
What is gonna be thier niche? The marines have the semi elite armor covered, I mean if you look at salamanders they are pretty much dwarves lore wise. GSC already does the industrial side.
This just feels like lazy nostalgia. Out of everything you can imagine in the far future and from a game balance how is this release not a new faction that falls to chaos. I would have been much happy to see an emperor's children or world eater codex like DG or T.Sons.
Finally I'm just gonna say if GW doesn't care about over using a design space with squats just being another marine-ish faction then give me SKAVEN IN SPACE!!! I know they would totally share the design space with GSC but I'd rather have skaven/beastmen with lightning weapons in hordes pouring out of the shadows then this.

To be fair we have certain levels of that already with the various factions. Sisters are squishier space marines with a love of flamers and melta while having a couple of special abilities. You can compare Tau to shooting-centric Space Marines or maybe some IG builds and so on.
Heck aside from the reanimation protocols, I'm sure people can draw parralells between the Necrons and a bunch of stuff.

The model shown was indeed their most basic trooper the 'Hearthkyn Warriors'. Stats are amusingly identical to the Necron warrior aside from the extra attack and 7 leadership . They can even be taken in blocks of twenty.
Though they apparently have a sergeant equivalent since it's mentioned that the warriors are lead by a Theyn (old English way of saying Thane) that has an extra attack, wound and point of leadership.
Of course the article is throwing around comments of them intentionally charging into melee but 2 attacks, S4 , AP0, hitting on 3s isn't that scary for most factions. Could be they're just talking them up or it's possible that the warriors will have access to stratagems and/or melee weapon options.

yeah something has to be done to make the faction unique... not sure what they're going to do.
and thinking that 4+ save dudes with 2 attacks S4 AP0 are going to melee anything is kinda funny.

You get the option of swapping out the gun for a pistol and power pick maybe? Cue everybody painting the hair of the melee warriors bright orange.

However did you know? I can always say they are dedicated to my son who loves orange so that makes it legit, right?
