no you do not have to take a lord character... those are maximums... the only minimum is for core percentage and that someone in your army must be the general...

also what type of general should i take. i only get 1 because 216points is 25% so i take a mage/scorrerer or a fighter? i dont know what my friends list is so i dont know what type of general he has. also i dont think his list will be legal.

well if you're not playing legal lists using rules where you have access to the 8th ed rulebook to check these things.... it's probably not going to matter whether you take a sorcerer or a fighter general.... so take which ever one you want to try out for fun...

well if you dont know what your friend it bringing then you might want a mage cause if he brings one you will want a little magic defence, and if he doesnt you can get a lot of magic off without as much trouble

im just hoping he does not have a lvl4 mage lord. cuz he is just useing what he has. thats fine i have the eliment of suprize i have 3 different armies that i can modify ever game to what will work better. so if need be i will start making nonlegal lists. lol 600point chaoslord on chaos dragon and 264points of warriors might be one lol.

Just about any spell except for magic missiles can be cast while the wizard is in combat. Hexes, vortexes and buffs are all good while many direct damage spells don't require line of sight and thus are also fine to cast as the only restriction is the target is in the forward arc.

yes, you get the higher single die out of the two rolled for winds of magic, regardless of whether or not you have a mage... you just can't channel without one....
