Day 4 - Painted on thin basecoat (of black) on the Horus Heresy Dark Angels Praetor Day 5 - Leadbelcher trim and Mephiston Red elements Day 6 - Painted weapons (sword and Volkite) on Praetor Day 7 - Switched gears to paint details on Blades of Khorne Herald of Khorne on Blood Throne// Also had a great game of 40k Day 8 - Washes on Praetor plus base, also washes on new paint areas on Herald of Khorne Day 9 - Scratch-built a Blades of Khrone Skull Alter. Only minor injuries from hot glue and foam wire cutter
A relaxing hobby weak. The terrain build was fun. Its not quite finished, but I have the structure down. Now to fill in the gaps, put on some texture paint and skull the heck out of it. Picked up one of those Citadel packs with 300 skulls. For this week I will finish the alter for the tourney and put the last touches on the Praetor.

I'd like to see that dark angel army. It's the only loyal SM chapter that has ever tempted me for long, but I've stayed strong so far. If I can ever get past my hobby ADHD on the sigmar side, I want to put more work into my emperor's children.

Day 10: Applied modelling clay to the gaps and steps of the Skull Alter Day 11: Realized that the clay would not stick to large vertical surfaces//Applied texture paint to those areas and sprayed Day 12: Got a game of AOS in with the Skull Alter/ came home and put some more skulls on it Day 13: Pivoted to a new form for the Skull Alter/ Realized that the new form just looked like a Pringles can cut in half Day 14: Went back to original Skull Alter and Modge-podged, washed and dry-brushed. Then applied Blood for the Blood God Day 15: AOS Tourney! Won a Slaves to Darkness Lord of Chaos on Daemonic Mount - assembled most of it Day 16: Finished the assembly and based the model
Terrain builds are not my specialty, but its always fun and relatively low-stress. Since I work with mostly scrap material I can always reboot!
The Chaos Lord model was actually quite difficult to build. The "new" GW models can be quite finicky and have to go together "just so." Now to get him undercoated and painted!

Day 17: Airbrush undercoat and then airbrush basecoat on Chaos Lord Day 18: Airbrushed highlight colour, then washed Day 19: Painted and washed the base (keeping it separate for now - hard to paint under horses) Day 20: Weapons, trim and tack on Chaos Lord and his mount Missed a day...
Day 1: Finished base colours on details of Chaos Lord Day 2: Washes and some highlights - still not done but getting close!
This was a weird week - I just ran out of steam on Friday of all days. Ah well.

There are days when we all run out of steam or life interrupts us. Good luck with the next streak.

So the last month or so were not a hobby highlight for me. Work trips and demands meant that I was not really able to sit down and get after hobby each day. Plus, nothing really grabbed me. I did finish the Chaos Lord and I picked up the new Azrael and painted him.
Now my trips are done (for a while) and it looks like a more even tempo at work.
Day 1: Repainted my Armorcast Shadowsword as a Dark Angels Horus Heresy Falchion. Got to the high-lighting stage Day 2: Partially assembled ten Bloodletters of Khorne that I bought at the Nexus birthday (these are fiddly...) Day 3: Finished assembly on the Bloodletters. Undercoated them along with the Skull Alter and Judgements of Khorne
The Falchion work was a step backwards, since I had painted it up fifteen years ago in IG colours. But it had sat in my cabinet unplayed. I think these models would rather be on the tabletop than on the shelf so I ruthlessly sprayed over the three-colour camoflague job I was so proud of. Cathartic. So it was blown off the table the next day. Once it is edge-highlighted and decaled it will be invincible!
The Khorne work is also good because they are models that I want to play.
Streak is back on!

Day 4: Airbrushed on Khorne Red basecoat on Bloodletters and terrain Day 5: Carrobourg Crimson wash, Bases on Bloodletters (not finished, but basecoated the bases) Day 6: Gold on the Skull Alter - this was tougher than I thought it would be Day 7: More gold on the Skull Alter, fixing mistakes Missed a day due to a Special Olympics Banquet - lots of fun but got home late
Day 1: Skulls on Skull Alter - lots of them with lots of mistakes to fix! Who new Khorne wanted so many skulls? Day 2: Washes on skulls, Leadbelcher on metal bits, second coat of gold, washes// swords and horns on Bloodletters
A good week, even if I missed a day. Terrain is a nice change of pace while the Bloodletters provide a relaxing diversion. Will keep streaking away this week on the Bloodletters and Invocations. The Wrath Axe looks like a chance to try some transitions so I will take my time.

I hobbied quite regularly this month, but with a few interruptions. The Bloodletters and Skull Alter are finished, while the Invocations of Khorne are tabletop ready (still working out some of the flame effects). I assembed and painted up four of those Tactical Marines that come in blind boxes - fun work both to collect and paint. I have the Falchion highlighted and decaled. I also picked up three second-hand Stormcast Eternals Vanguard-Paladors. I almost always strip and repaint second-hand models, but these ones looked great and are in the same scheme as the rest of my army (Hammers of Sigmar). So I took some time to make the bases the same as the rest of my army but otherwise they are great as-is! So I won't include them in my production total but very satisfying nonetheless.
Since the year is halfway through I thought I would take stock:
Lord of the Rings - Warriors of Rohan x 12
Horus Heresy Dark Angels: 5 x Deathwing Companions, 20 x Tactical Marines, 19 x Heavy Support Marines, 1 x Land Raider Proteus
AoS: 10 x Bloodletters, 1 x Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount, 1 x Skull Alter, 3 x Invocations
40K: Azrael and 4 Tactical Marines
So a total of 79 models and just over 2,000 points. Less than last year at this point, but I am happy! The Horus Heresy project was fun - kit bashing the Deathwing Companions from 40K Dark Angels Veterans and my bitz box was my highlight so far.
The undercoated Morder Orcs are glaring at me from my shelf - its been 20 years since I got them. But only six months since I assembled them so there is that! They are Orcs. How hard can it be to paint them?

What are you doing with those Warriors of Rohan? Interested in playing MESBG?
I found the mordor morannon orcs super easy to paint with contrast paint. But also I wasn't trying to make them look good.

Put together a 10 day streak, but life interrupted. Still, a good two weeks!
I painted 17 Mordor Orcs in two batches from the 2003 Return of the King boxed set. Discovered the many shades of brown required which were then subtly covered in Agrax Earthshade. I might have overdone the layers of brown. I then assembled and base-coated 10 Warriors of Gondor from the same set. I was ready to dive into the metal parts when I learned that my Lion had arrived at Nexus. Gear-shift.
After a very fun game of 10th Ed against Tommy I picked up the Lion. I have no interest in analysis paralysis so I have started assembling to get the Lion ready for this weekend's tourney. I am sure Azrael won't mind having his regional manager on the table with him for the first time.
It is an intimidating build and paint, but I will go in sub-assemblies. I have a plan...

Day 1: Assembled The Lion in sub-assemblies Day 2: Undercoated the sub-assemblies Day 3: Basecoat on main body, base and cloak sub-assemblies Day 4: Washes and highlights on cloak Day 5: various base colours on main body, washes, basecoat on base, washes Day 6: Clean-up and highlights - The Lion is ready for the Tourney and for once a freshly painted model does not die Day 7: Repair paint jobs and fixes to several models that got banged up at the tourney Day 8: Started assembly on a Scions Command Squad Day 9: Finished assembly Day 10: Undercoat and Balthasar Gold on the trim (how do I have any of that paint left?) Day 11: The Fang on the armour and Zandri Dust on the fatigues Day 12: Bugman glow on the faces and hands; Reikland Wash on the mini; Khorne Red on the berets Day 13: Game with the Scions - they lived! Painted bases Day 14: Base colours on the Scions Command Squad standard
So two weeks of hobby with some gaming worked in. I was really happy with the Lion. A great looking mode to work with.

Day 1: Started assembly on Bloodthirster Day 2: Pinning Bloodthirster to base, completed assembly Day 3: Undercoat and basecoats Day 4: Airbrushed Khorne Red and Mephiston Red on wings, applied recess washes Day 5: Warplock Bronze and Leadbelcher on metal parts Day 6: Skavenblight Dinge and washes on skin Day 7: Zandri Dust on skulls, horns, teeth etc - Agrax Earthshade wash Day 8: Picked up three Army Painter airbrush paints to go for lava effect on base Day 9: Additional washes on Bloodthirster Day 10: Lenses and bases on Scions Command Squad (yes, jumping around a bit)
The Bloodthirster has been fun. I figured I would dive in and get painting rather than be intimidated. I realize that I should have thought the base through before pinning him into place. Now I am doing some tricky airbrush work...
I also got two great AOS League games and a 40K game in during this period, and the Bloodthirster is keen to take the table on Tuesday. Being freshly painted he should die quickly, but Khorne is OK with that.
