Well I just got gifted some really sweet models, and now I have a ridiculous amount of Tyrants... and with double leviathan I even have two neurotyrants. Are Tyrants good? umm... not really... are they cheap? nope over costed... are they cool? hell yeah!
I'm not saying this is competitive... like at all...lol... but I can now field this:
Swarmlord - warlord
Hive tyrant - heavy venom cannon, bonesword and lash whip Hive tyrant - stranglethorn cannon, bonesword and lash whip, Alien cunning (redeploy 3 units)
Neurotyrant Neurotyrant
Winged hive tyrant - Monstrous scything talons - adaptive biology (5+ FNP) Winged hive tyrant - bonesword and lash whip Winged hive tyrant - Monstrous scything talons
5 barbgaunts 5 barbgaunts
6 Zoanthropes 6 Zoanthropes
2,000 points

I know this probably feels bad knowing this here but the T-fex got even better than we had thought after our ork vs Nids game. When my best boss went in and slapped the T-fex for 14 mortals to finish it off. With the design notes any damage dealt by Dev Wounds applies damage reduction BEFORE converting to mortals so I only did 7 mortals due to damage 2 become damage 1. I think it was still enough to finish the hurt one but that t12 -1 damage IS crazy good.
I'm not sure orks have anything that can really deal into T-fex

oh wow... yeah that's real good.
I think t-fexes and zoans are some of the best things in the index (for very different reasons obviously)
I think any serious tyranid list can benefit from them for certain.

Another Tyranid list I've been messing around with - based on once the new deathleaper model comes out Deathleaper Neurotyrant - warlord with alien cunning Old one eye 2 carnifexes with crushing claws, bio-plasma, spine banks and heavy venom cannon (Old one eye goes here) 2 Carnifexes with bioplasma, spine banks, crushing claws, extra scything talons 2 Carnifexes with bioplasma, spine banks, crushing claws, extra scything talons lictor lictor 10 neurogaunts (neurotyrant attaches here) Screamer killer Screamer Killer Trygon 3x Von Ryan's leaper 3x Von Ryan's leaper The sneaky bugs are all about board control, actions, flipping objectives etc. while the NINE fex variants run forward and try to barrel into the enemy. Pretty much a melee army, which I'm not sure is a good idea with the new Tyranids (shooting heavy with zoans, exocrines, t-fexes seems much stronger). But I've got all these new models I want to try out

omg flyrants are so terrible now... lol... Ya they are really bad. Like both overcosted, too easy to anti tank kill and not fast enough to make up for either.

Next round of testing for the nids... trying to see if an action oriented list could work... mostly little bugs rather than monster mash like I normally do:
Warlord: Tervigon with adaptive biology (5+ FNP) Neurotyrant with alien cunning (redeploy up to 3 units)
20 termagants with fleshborers 20 termagants with fleshborers
5 barbgaunts 5 barbgaunts Lictor Lictor 10 Neurogants & nodebeast (Neurotyrant is attached) Psychophage Tyrannofex with rupture cannon Tyrannofex with acid spray 3 venomthropes 3 von Ryan's leapers 3 von Ryan's leapers 6 zoanthropes 6 zoanthropes
2,000 points
Board control is the name of the game... leapers and lictors all infiltrate for some sneaky shenanigans. Tervigon with 40 termagants is real difficult to shift, and good for controlling midboard objectives. Barbgaunts are slowing down opposing infantry.
Psychophage is giving a bubble of FNP. Zoans a bubble of 6+ invul. Venomthropes give cover and stealth, So those piddly gaunts have an actual chance of staying alive.

Another day of testing (thanks Iain and Jordan!) and more thoughts as to how I'd like a list to run. I'm not sold on a few things I tried today, and have been thinking of the termagants + tervigon as being okay but not great. They just kinda clog up the board a bit, and are great for screening, but man they die easily. Was also not blown away by the Neurotyrant after three games with him. Kinda okay shooting, but pretty terrible melee and neurogants are just awful. So dropping all of that and bringing back swarmy.
So here goes yet another list idea:
Swarmlord and 3 tyrant guard
5 barbgaunts 5 barbgaunts
Lictor Lictor 3 Von Ryan's Leapers 3 Von Ryan's Leapers
Maleceptor Haruspex Psychophage
Tyrannofex with rupture cannon Tyrannofex with acid spray
3 venomthropes 6 zoanthropes 6 zoanthropes
So Swarmlord's ability to Vect an opposing strat AND give me a CP every turn is just too valuable to not include. Melee wise, the last list was really lacking. Swarmlord and the Haruspex give some threatening melee fighters. The lictors and leapers give some infiltrating sneaky bugs to grab engage, behind enemy lines, teleport homers etc.
Shooting wise the Zoans and rupture fex are there to tackle enemy armor as best they can. The acid spray and barbgaunts are more control shooting - overwatch and movement restriction respectively.
Wildcard is the psychophage... he's pretty okay, and has the chance to be amazing vs. psykers (although if he's not fighting psykers he's really "meh")
Support pieces are the Malceptor (with his -1 attack aura) and the venomthropes (with their cover for monsters and stealth for little guys).
I do think that I might be losing focus just a bit by trying to do a little bit of everything with this list. So you know, more testing is required lol

Your Psychophage shone today! Top tip for future opponents , keep units of Terminators led by a Librarian far, far away from that guy.
Your Lictors and Barbguants were good utility.

Yeah when there's a psyker to eat he's amazing... like way better than he should be... but no psykers and he's not doing a whole lot, but still in my game vs orks he justified being there, even if it was not to the same level as eating terminators for breakfast!

I like that leapers are back. I always loved that model. I got to break out the nids so i can play with some bugs
