Well the end of 5th edition 40k is upon us, and we thought we'd say goodbye with one final tourney, scheduled close to the rumoured release date of 6th edition - July 14th, 2012! (if the rumours turn out to be wrong, well the tourney is still on that date!) ....and to say goodbye we are going to have a doubles tourney!!!! Now you have some choices in this regard... so here's how it's going to roll out.... (Thanks to Ray and 3++ for the FOC!) Each player brings 1,000 point lists. the FOC is modified as follows: Force Org:Each Player must bring 1 HQ and 1 Troop Each Player may additionally bring up to 2 more troops, 1 elite, 1 fast and 1 heavy selection additionally you have 1 "Swing slot" which can be used to bring 1 additional elite, fast or heavy choice ORYou may use your swing slot to select a USR from the list below and grant it to 1 unit in your army of your choice (must be clearly designated on your army list) USRs Availible:skilled rider, move through cover, acute senses, counter-attack, furious charge, stubborn, and stealth If you Sign up without a partner: you may select an additional USR from the list and grant it to 1 unit in your army of your choice (it may be the same unit/rule, but remember rules do not stack with themselves... no double stealthed terminators, sorry) So basically if you want to sign up as a team that's fine, you just miss out on a USR to account for the advantage that you gain from designing lists to compliment one another... if you want to be randomly assigned that's fine too. Master list will be held at Nexus (that's where you sign up!), but I'll try to keep it updated here as well with who is signed up... and if they are deciding to partner or not... You do not have to declare your army before the day of the tourney (but if you are choosing your partner, might be a good idea to sort that part out )

The Main Mission Win Conditions Here are the ones we'll be using this tourney (note that scenarios will also include other objectives that will be worth up to 3 bonus points or make you lose up to 3 penalty points) Table Quarters:A win condition of table quarters involves you controlling a table quarter. A quarter is considered controlled if you have the MOST VP worth of models in the quarter. (no contesting a whole table quarter with an empty rhino!) Control 4 more table quarters than your opponent: Massacre/Massacred Control 3 more table quarters than your opponent: Major victory / Major loss Control 1-2 more table quarters than your opponent: Minor victory / Minor Loss Control the same number of table quarters as your opponent: draw Modified Kill Points: (note, a margin of greater than 2 KP is required for a win - hopefully makes KP less of an ordeal for horde / MSU armies) Have More than six KP than your opponent: Massacre Have 5-6 more KP than your opponent: Major victory Have 3-4 more KP than your opponent: Minor victory Have a difference of 0-2 KP with your opponent: Draw Objectives:Objectives can only be held by a troop unit within 3". Vehicles other than skimmers and flyers cannot drive over objectives (they're too valuable to risk breaking!) and no vehicle of any sort can "land" on an objective to claim it. There will be two types of objective missions used: 5 objectives - one in each table quarter and one in the middle: scoring for this is: Masscre = control all five objectives Major = control 3-4 more objectives than your opponent Minor= control 1-2 more objectives than your opponent Draw = control the same number of objectives (can be none!) 3 objectives - one in the middle, and one placed anywhere in your deployment zone at least 12" away from the centre objective: Massacre = control all three objectives Major = control both the centre objective AND the one in your opponent's deployment zone Minor = control at least one more objective than your opponent Draw= control the same number of objectives as your opponent (can be none!) These mission parameters will be alternated between Primary and Secondary objectives... if you draw on the primary objective, then you go to Secondary objective to determine the winner... if you draw on both primary and secondary objective you go to the tertiary objective, which is always Victory Points to determine the winner - less than 200 points difference counts as a draw on this condition as well. ...this way there should be very few total draws each round, but it is still possible to totally tie on everything!

hope i can go to this, depending on when i go to the cottage this summer
so the choise is partner with 1000 points of army or a USR, so my assault marines can have stealth(or what ever) if i play against two people with 1000 points and i only have 1000 points ouch lol

The idea is if you know who your partner is beforehand (AKA you sign up together and build your lists knowing what each other is taking) you can say "well your army is better at this, so bring that, and I'm better at this, so I'll bring that".
Where as if you sign up alone and get randomly paired with someone on tournament day, the extra USR will help make your individual force stronger so that you don't get steamrolled by a well put together pair of lists

okay... so apparently this was confusing....
it is a tag team tournament. You bring 1k of an army with the restrictions as per above. If you want to pick your partner, this gives you an advantage obviously as you and your partner can tailor lists to compliment one another... therefore if you DON'T pick your partner and get randomly assigned on the day of the tournament, you get the extra USR...
every game will be 2 vs. 2... each with 1k lists....

So if I understood it correctly a "team" could possibly end up using 4 heavy or elitr or fast attack between them. Plus the mandatory 2 HQ, 2 troop and up to 6 troops.

it would be possible if both people decided to take their swing slot in elite and they got paired together that yep, they could have 4 elites on the team... with 1k that does limit those pricey elites and heavies though, as you need bare minimum 1 troop and 1 HQ
As always a balanced army is what will be the most able... especially if you don't show up with a partner and get matched to someone at random.
Because of the swing spot, it is possible for a team to have 1 of their FOC slots expanded by one (but in doing so the other FOC slots will only have at most two choices in them)
