The maidens certainly look like a solid choice. Adding in the character for Quick to Fire looks mean too. AP against bad guys looks great on paper, but ultimately most bad guys don't have much armour beyond WoC....Dwarf heavy infantry and Saurus could still be an issue.
Seaguard with their character could be a nice choice, keeping a wide front and shooting and then pulling your reform into ranks for combat, but I'm still not really sold on Archers. I know they're cheaper and relatively accurate, but having played them a lot in the past s3 with no AP just doesn't hack it most of the time. I could see a unit with the Shard being great for hunting backfield stuff, but that requires effectively wasting a character on doing it.
My personal feelings would be having a unit of Maidens and maybe 1 or 2 of those flying Bolt Thrower chariots with a chunk of Seaguard as core and then a block of Phoenix Guard with LV2 with High Magic for the 3+ ward save as the basics of the army. Mix and match whatever else you want from there.
I'm not going to promise anything but I think I'm going to poke around the internet and see if I can find some elves for cheap....buying the army from scratch is just too much, but for the right price they look fun to play.

How about a high elf chariot list for 2400 points:
~30 x Silverhelms to fill out core (likely in 1 big and 2 x smaller units) 3 x white lion chariots 3 x skyreaver chariots 7 x tiranoc chariots in 3 units (they can be fielded in units of 1-3)
Then just fill out characters and rare with the remaining ~600 points. Chariots alone would yield 9 deployments and pack quite a punch.

Do Chariots still work in 8th? I know I haven't played a lot, but from what I remember, Steadfast seemed to cause them a lot of trouble as they weren't able to punch through units anymore. I used to absolutely love running dual Lion Chariots in 7th.

Scott runs them to good effect in his beastmen army... basically they're easy deployments, so allow you an advantage there... plus it's all about the combo-charge, or softening up units before you want something else to hit it... I wouldn't send a chariot in alone unless you were pretty confident that they weren't going to hurt you (low S troops) but I've slammed my ogre chariots into units all the time to support a charge... those free impact hit wounds really do add up the combat res!

If I am not mistaken lion chariots are stubborn. If taking life at all boy they become amzing mini tar pits or spam high to give them ward saves

If I am not mistaken lion chariots are stubborn. If taking life at all boy they become amzing mini tar pits or spam high to give them ward saves Lion chariots have indeed gained the stubborn rule and can be sent in to hold up weaker ranked units just "for a little bit" - a tactic also known as taking one for the team Tossing in several chariots with the silverhelms would likely do enough damage to negate any horde to the point where the SH would have equal ranks, thus denying steadfast and breaking the unit. Scott has a similar approach with beastmen using gors and various chariots/monster combo charges and it appears to work well.

Please verify do eagles now come 1+ and skirmish? That is correct. The skirmish comes as part of the fly rules for units of fliers.

Thoughts on units of several 3 to 6 range?

Depends on what the intended use is. If they are going after war machines and possibly missile troops then it is a good number since they will get stomps. Personally, I would rather spend the points elsewhere in the new HE book but a lot depends on the rest of the army.

Was just thinking of a msu focussed list using lots of chariots, fliers, flying and mounted characters. Just hard to think of character builds without book.

Has anyone here played with the new High Elf book yet? Picked it up last week but haven't had a chance to try anything out so was wondering if someone had some advice about the new book as I make my 1250 and 2500 lists for this Thursday!
