I recall reading on one of the many rumour discussions about the new base sizes that it was the Jumppack/assault marine models that had a larger base than the other models pictured in the WD (I think that was the reference)

All marines will ship with 32mm bases, apparently it's "confirmed" with someone who has access to the new WD already.

Will the expectation be a re-basing then, or follow the "Base it was shipped with" mentality? I mean, my Avatar is still on a Square base from 2nd edition.

I won't be expecting people to rebase their entire armies for tournies here... that's pretty silly...

Yeah, re-basing already complete models doesn't make much sense and I doubt anyone here will "score down" sportsmanship for not having 32mm bases in tournaments like everyone is all huffy about.

Yet re-basing is something GW has done in the past. I remember having terminators on the small infantry bases that I had to re-base and bike units on old cavalry bases. Mind you, Unless you were Deathwing/Ravenwing, you didn't have nearly a hundred models to deal with.
If they do move standard marine infantry to a larger base then I can imagine the outcry and the screams about it being a money grab.

Dude 1: "OMG, GW is changing marine base sizes to 32mm!" Dude 2: "OMGWTFBBQ! I'm not rebasing my army evar!" Dude 3: "I quit 40k!" Dude 4: "I blah blah blah (makes comment licking GW's proverbial butthole and all but thanking them for making the change in base size) blah blah" Dude 5: "Nerdrage, model for advantage, nerdrage, baseless whining, nerdrage"

lol... yeah that summary pretty much fits....
....sidenote these are the reasons I'm NOT rebasing my marine armies:
1) smurfs are small so no real need 2) squats are small so no real need 3) my blood angels are on expensive scribor bases that look cool 4) I'm way too lazy

From Faeit:
"With new bases coming out on the Blood Angel Tactical Squad and Death Company, there was a lot of debate (and still is) about what will happen to our armies. Will we be required to rebase them? Is this going to even be the norm? Well a reader here sent in the question and Games Workshop responded.
The Question Dear Sir / Madam, I have a question, can you explain what units will utilize the new 32mm bases? I've seen these are included in Shield of Baal: Deathstorm & can only assume these are for the Death Company. I ask as I am about to start painting my Black Legion army & want them all on the correct bases prior to commencing. Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
The Response from Games Workshop Thanks for the email. The new 32mm bases were a design choice made by the sculptors, to make the Death Company look more imposing. There is no specific base that you have to use for the Death Company, so should you wish to mount them on the smaller 20mm bases this is fine, but if you would rather have the slightly larger 32mm base, this is also fine. I hope that this helps, but if you need anything further, please let me know. Kind regards "

AND.... "It seems that next week we will be seeing a Blood Angels Death Company and Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard re-release in a new black box format. Very good news, since these two items were no longer available on the GW webstore. Please remember that this is early information and as such must be considered rumors, but looks very solid. via Rob Baer over on Spikey Bits spikeybitsblog.com/2014/12/breaking-fate-of-the-sanguinary-guard-death-co-boxes.html Fear not Blood Angels players, the fate of the Sanguinary Guard and Death Company Boxes has been uncovered! Games Workshop will be repacking (in the new black box format) and re-releasing them next week, but best perhaps the best news of all is the price will be the same!"

I certainly won't be re-basing any marines I have finished....though I guess most of them are on bikes. Any new Assault Marines I bother to make will probably go on them though - seems like it would make it easier to stand them up.

I'll likely rebase my death company to make them look more imposing, sounds like a sweet idea to me.
