Well since Chaos Dwarves are in the picture I thought I'd ask a question that I had while reading through their rules for the first time. The Iron Daemon says that it is possible to make charges without declaring them with its boiler rules. Does this mean that as long as the CD played doesn't care about giving opponent ASF, you can always make "unintentional" charges thus disallowing charge reactions? If so... that is a ridiculous rule.

Hey guys. Would somebody be able to lend me 5 glade riders (or any elf fast cav) and a mounted elf sorceress for the day of the tourney? Otherwise I'll have to add dryads to my list...
Also is parking free on sundays?

parking is free on Sundays
and as far as the chaos dwarf question, I believe that you are always allowed a charge reaction, however I do not have the forge world book handy... lemme look for a FAQ... I'll be right back...
there... that didn't take long did it!
okay, it doesn't reference this exact question in the FAQ, however it does say this about the Iron Daemon:
"Q. Since the Iron Daemon cannot wheel or turn during a charge, does this mean that when it contacts a unit it does not ‘close the door’ and the charged unit ‘closes the door’ instead?
A. If an Iron Daemon makes contact with an enemy unit then the normal rules apply for combats and the Iron Daemon is allowed to ‘close the door’. This is the only time that the model is allowed to wheel. When charging the Iron Daemon must make contact with the facing of the charged unit that it started in, otherwise it counts as a failed charge"
so it would appear at least in the FAQ that they talk about the thing as "charging" so to speak, so I would assume if normal charging rules apply such as these, that it wtill for all intents and purposes counts as a charge, therefore there'd be a charge reaction.
So until Frank let's me know I'm totally wrong in this, I'd say you'd get a charge reaction.

All signed up! Just need to decide between Warriors or Vampire Counts...
I noticed you said "Undead players may use the combined list of VC/TK armies". Does this mean that "Undead Legions" are allowed or just that a combined VC/TK army is permitted? If it's just combined VC/TK, how are you handling marching, etc...?
The main reason I ask, not that I intend to take any TK stuff (as I don't own any) is that there is no reason to NOT run Undead Legions (as opposed to VC or TK) if it is available.
Are Legions of Chaos allowed *glances at Skullcannon*?
Thanks!

I'm really not sure what to do to be honest... when I first put that up it was a little while ago and it seemed as though it was a combined army list, which I had thought might finally help the poor tomb kings to be playable again... it was probably a big mistake on my part overall and I should have just said "no end times" which would have been WAY simpler.
but I'd like feedback from those attending on what they think...

With respect to the Iron Daemon, it does not have the random movement rule so all normal rules for charges apply - i.e. a unit being charge gets a charge reaction if it does not fail the terror check.
On the issue of the Chaos Legions/undead legions, I am not sure about the former but the latter allow Tomb Kings to be much more playable (they can march, don't melt with the hierophant, etc.) so looks pretty good to me. Scott likely is a better person to consult in this instance since he has the book. Personally, I don't have any problem so long as whoever is bringing the undead/chaos legion army also brings the rules so that their opponent (and a judge, if necessary) can read up on the rules since they are not "usual".

The iron deamon needs to declare charges before burining the boiler to add movement. The rule states if the iron deamon hits a unit unintentionally from this move(not as part of a declared charge action) the unit takes impact hits and gains asf against the deamon. I would argue no to charge reaction if the iron deamon didn't declare a charge before it moved.

I would argue no to charge reaction if the iron deamon didn't declare a charge before it moved. Just read the rules (what did we do before google and the internet) and I would agree in cases where a charge has not been declared, no charge reaction is possible as the rules explicitly state that the ID does not count as charging in such instances.

There you go... thanks be to google...lol.... so as to the new Chaos/Undead legions style lists: Either may be taken as they are new legal list options within the game and really breathe life into tomb kings ( ) The exception would be the high point value special characters - ie: Nagash, the Glottkin etc. we just don't have the experience with them yet to determine balance issues that may arise with the structure of a tournament, and there have been concerns expressed about possible inbalance. So in the interest of keeping everyone happy (my main goal): lists are in... special characters with those end times books - not in.

So essentially with the Iron Daemon, according to rules as written, there is barely any reason to DECLARE a charge since you can just use the 2d6 bonus movement in "remaining moves" to make an "unintentional charge" which bypasses the BRB charge rules in which case you get no charge reaction. This is my understanding from reading here and the chaos dwarf forum.

yes, so keep your distance unless it's with a fighty unit... which should be the only things running up the board to it anyways...lol... I think it's random and situational enough that it shouldn't affect too much... of course saying that I fully expect this to hurt me on Sunday just as an object lesson from the universe
