what the hell GW??? apparently I need to get my spore pod back off the terrain shelf at Nexus I see.... From Faeit " We have a new Mycetic Spore called a Tyranid Tyrannocyte. Very cool to see a model coming for this, and not only do we have pictures, but we have extremely solid information on what it is, and what it does. This kit makes Three Models!!!!!!!!! A drop pod, weapons bunker, or a giant spore mine! While there are leaked images here, we also have the names of the other three build options! Leaked pics are here www.talkwargaming.com/2014/11/leaks-new-tyranid-unit-spotted.html tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2n8sopz&s=8#.VFeTMPnF8pq via anonymous sources on Faeit 212 ***** Multi-part plastic kit for approx $60 (approx conversion) Tyrannocyte (Tyranid drop pod) 75pt Can carry 20 models or 1 monstrous creature. Has 5 deathpitters and can upgrade to 5 venom cannons or 5 barbed stranglers for 25pts each. Sporocyst (weapons bunker) Mucolid Spore (giant spore mine) "

So GW pulled the model for just long enough that people got rid of them, then released it. Good job guys.
That thing sounds pretty awesome though...75 points is pricey for a pod, but it comes with some pretty awesome weapon options.

well GW actually never had a model... this was the chapterhouse debacle... they pulled it long enough the knock offs were no good and left... now they have an official model which is NOT a myceptic spore (so Chapterhouse cannot turn around and sue them!)
so three of them holding two t-fexes and a tervigon deposits six MC's and a spawned unit of gants into your opponent's backfield along with some pretty hardy synapse... this is a game changer for the nid dex... these things are MASSIVELY better than the old spore pod (which was immobile after dropping)... these things drift around and can be dropping FIVE barb strangler shots a turn! (hi orks!) if upgraded and are six wound MC's...sure they can't run or charge, but they are going to be an absolute pain to remove...
...especially if they also drop in your backfield with a malanthrope too for a shrouded bubble...
...hmmmmmm

Hello rear armour Mr. Wave Serpent. This looks like a real game changer for 40k in general...Nids are suddenly looking like they could be top of the pile...

At that point cost... I'm impressed.
Since it has drop pod's rules about bouncing off enemy models and impassable terrain. It'll only mishap off the table.
This is a pretty huge power spike for Tyranids.

So, the other things this kit can make is a spore mine that is able to assault zooming flyers doing a str 8 ap3 hit and are 15 pts a model, and a Sporocyst which looks like a landed tyranid drop pod and basically is one but adds 6" synapse to synapse creatures within 6" of it. I guess it also has infiltrate.

Also, as an aside incase you weren't aware. The drop pod thing has boring rules for its shooting. It's 5 guns basically have their own little arcs and they automatically shoot the closest target to them. My guess it's kind of star shaped for the placement and you could wind up shooting at something you can't hurt. Still though, it's going to be a huge pain for anyone to remove those things unless you've got some force weapons or str 10 laying around. Especially since they get to move 6" and can be scoring. Also, for those mines I would have to go back and check but I also think they were troop choices. (Might have read wrong though.) As if my Elysian's didn't have a hard enough time playing Nids, it just gets a lot worse for me there.

From early reports it looks like I'll have to say: "Well done GW". I must confess I'm surprised. I'm feeling like painting my nids again.
If the early info is correct it certainly looks like it may be a game changer for nids. I do honestly hope it doesn't make nids OP - at least certain builds/units look to be really nasty, especially if it is true that any MC can be dropped.

yeah apparently from the scan that's any MC (in singles at least) So GW basically said not only are drop nids playable, but given the changes to 7th edition and this model, they're very competitive.. at least initial thoughts... I've been pretty impressed with the direction since 7th happened... and I really like that they're willing to release models & rules for an army and not feel tied to "only when a codex drops" I know vs. Eldar nids got a HUGE boost vs. wave serpents... Elysians... yeah sorry, if I can send 15 pt missiles at your planes I'd be crazy not to

Those auto-fire rules are a little limiting, but they also seem to let the thing bypass the rules about only shooting 2 weapons and having one target. Imagine that thing done up with Barbed Stranglers dropping in amongst an infantry army? Imagine 3 or 4 of them dropping in?
