on the "holy crap he's still really good" side though:
- units of ablative wounds zoans - you can now have multiples (not unique!) - generates extra warp charges for zoans - 18" range psychic shriek... from a pod... so anywhere you'd like ie: bad scatter doesn't render him useless - half the points
with the minimum squad size for newdoom being 3 and a pod mandatory for this idea, for 250 points you can have three zoans (one of them newdoom) in a pod deep striking in. Gives you FOUR psychic powers (warp blast + one other for the zoans, spirit leech for newdoom, plus the primaris) the ability to spirit leech one unit and generate charges for the zoans to launch THREE lance shots (you get one for every zoan and neurothrope in the unit). Given the range of both powers is 18" (or 24" if you want to drop three AP3 blasts on someone!)you should be able to drop pretty safely....
you also get a monstrous creature to play guard for the zoans with five deathspitters, so adds 15 S5 shots as well! And if you want to get really fun you can run the zoans in the shooting phase (as they have no ranged attacks) behind the huge pod to block LOS to any retaliatory fire. Next movement phase, peek out and see a unit (brotherhood of psykers means only one has to see) psychic shenanigans, run behind pod in shooting phase. rinse and repeat.
not saying I'd totally do this or anything... but I might totally do this...
