From BOLS:
We’ve been hearing for months about what 8th Edition of Warhammer 40,000 may hold. Here’s today latest from an old reliable rumormonger who’s been around for years:
Sources tell BoLS:
-8th Edition starter is Astartes vs Chaos Marines. -Rulebook will be similar to Age of Sigmar’s General’s Handbook. -Look for Campaign Books similar to the Realmgate Wars series. -Point costs and rules for Army construction will be in the “General’s Handbook” and future codex-like Books -Release date for 8th Edition is June -The new Edition will be set after Abaddons’s 13th Black Crusade -Initial focus on factions will be on Imperium vs. Chaos -There are brewing disagreement between the returning Primarchs -Many are shocked and disagree the 40th Millennia Imperium’s religion and injustice.
Now the previous rumors were heavy on what the rule set would be like:
GW is borrowing some rules mechanics form Age of Sigmar to pull over into the new edition. Look for an emphasis on ease of play, especially for new players. Look for the variable-stats-based-on-damage rule mechanic seen on some Age of Sigmar monsters to make it’s way into the Grimdark. Look for Psychics to be greatly simplified. Army construction will not be constrained. Some version of AoS Warscrolls will make their way into the game. The game will retain it’s gameplay and tactical depth, and not come anywhere near AoS’s tiny 4 pages of rules. GW’s design goal is to maintain 40K’s depth of tactics and play, while speeding up playtime and removing needless detail. This could mirror the major shift we saw with Age of Sigmar from Warhammer Fantasy Battles – “New Setting, New Rules!” Guess we’ll find out soon enough…

With these on their way, I feel like we should address what the plan is if 8th Ed drops say, Feb 1st...
I'd personally suggest confirming the Club Championships to be a 7th Ed tournament (Maybe I missed this actually happening) to ensure everyone has a viable army together and we can keep using our mission packs, but that's just a gut feeling.

Seems like they have good ideas in the works. With an increase in community engagement, I'm sure that at least some consultation is going on. Streamlining the game is definitely something good.

Club Championships is 7th edition 40K
I've heard 8th drops in June.
If it takes the good stuff from AOS people are going to be happy... with the general's handbook that just turned out to be such a solid game.

from BOLS:
Sources tell BoLS:
Look for the plotline of 8th Edition to wind it’s way to Mars, seat of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Upon it’s surface the Emperor has laid a grand plan millennia in the making. Which only his returned sons can complete. An ultimate tool to cast down the Ruinous Powers.

The void dragon?...
That’d be some crazy stuff if they wake the void dragon and finish the Warp Suppression Pylons; effectively severing the warp from realspace and all psykers from their abilities on a galaxy wide scale. Taking some lore from the 3rd ed Necron codex…
“Deep beneath the Noctis Labyrinthus sleeps the fearful entity known only as the Dragon of Mars in Mechanicus legend. This being may be the C'tan known as Mag'ladroth the Void Dragon, who was imprisoned there by the Emperor millennia prior to the Age of Terra and is watched over by a single guardian, a Terran girl named Dalia Cythera, who has guarded it since the Schism of Mars. It wouldn't be for another 10,000 years that a new guardian would be drawn to the Noctis Labyrinth and take Dalia's place.”

From Blood of Kittens:
"Holy crap guys GW is spilling the beans at Adepticon! AoS (Rules Wise) of 40k is happening! Deathguard Image attached General's Handbook For 40k & FAQ Submission Platform, Rules, Votes Bonuses for "Themed" Armies Movement Stat back Charging Units Swing First No Matter What Armour save Modifers Moral Works Like AoS"

Wow that's pretty interesting... I did not expect the Movement back on the models. Charge= swing first is actually something I loved from Warhammer Fantasy back in 6th ed, might help out a bunch of Close combat armies. Moral as per AoS is pretty cool. If you fail Lds you just lose some models not the WHOLE squad. Not sure how the Armour save modifiers will work but an interesting concept vs the AP model where you got it or didn't get it, could make for an interesting twist to the game.
We shall see what is what as June approaches!

if the armour modifiers are like aos that could be interesting.
the charging strike first may help some low int armies.
the whole generals hand book thing has me skeptical on the salt content of this. yes they did it to aos. but after they had already redid the system.
i just can't see from a business point of view them going from tonnes of books that they make a lot of money on every time one gets updated. to one hand book and pdf's with an army book or campaign book every so often.
but who knows

Well for some time now, they've been moving away from the codex model with the exception of something released as a brand new army (GSC, deathwatch) or a compilation. If you change fundamental stats such as movement for example, you have to update everyone on release (AKA general's handbook) or some armies simply can't play anymore because they won't have rules. so I can see a general's handbook being a possibility. the one big complaint people have been having (and giving feedback to GW about) is rules bloat. What they figured out with AOS is they can have a general's handbook AND a battletome for each army and people will buy them PLUS campaign books. So actually the same number of books - they just don't make them absolutely mandatory - which means easier to get into initially however the same people are probably buying all the books they did before it's a brilliant system from a business point of view. They took a "FREE" product (all the army rule content) and said if you want you can also pay money for it for some extra content (fluff and formations) and the general's handbook had all the rules you needed to play. Worldwide sales have been crazy good (after the first six months of doom and gloom and all the rage had died down). My completely made up all my own brain thoughts. They wanted to do this model with 40k but couldn't risk it with their game that was basically supporting the company. They had nothing to lose with Warhammer being on the brink of folding so tried it first there and basically saved that game. There are things in the 40K we know now (random charge rolls, separate psychic phase with dice generation, etc.) that were first tested on Warhammer first before applied to 40k. I have zero doubt AOS was a test for 8th edition 40k. The games NOW are very familiar to one another and it takes literally almost no time for someone who plays 40k to pick up AOS. Hopefully they've learned however in a shooting centric game like 40k - the double turn mechanic would NOT work (oh man could you imagine tau with a double turn?)

Oh I agree, they totally have tested 40k rule elements in fantasy in the past.
I know people say aos gets rid of rules bloat. But it only gets rid of very little doesn't it just shift it. Instead of a lot of general rules. You have tonnes of rules for your models instead?
So instead of trying to remember all the general rules you only have to know the rules for your models. But most good players try to know the rules for their opponents also which will make it harder for people to remember it all. Just my opinion on that.
