Financially it's a pain for most of us to shell out for (usually multiple) codices again. I too had hoped for a Grand Alliance style compendium as well. Just a wild-ass suggestion, but I would be good with it if another player wanted to stick with their index. I have them anyway and would be willing to step back from a codex to keep things even-handed in a game. This is not practical for tournaments but could be okay for regular games.

Ok so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who was expecting something so extensive....and possible expensive too!

Yeah, the only problem with playing with the indexes in casual games comes from the problem of not having that full picture, adjusted point costs, re-jigged rules, etc. etc. I’m cautiously disappointed but we don’t know how they’ll manage changes in the books yet or what the cost of the books will be.
Plus if all else fails I’m glad I only NEED to buy 2, maybe 3 books.

If all codices are specific, I will need to buy 6. I may be retiring / selling some armies for purely financial reasons. Sooner or later the investment becomes non-viable (read "ridiculous").

hmmm let me check:
space marines, blood angels, csm, necrons, tyranids, genestealer cult, daemons
if I keep my star wars as eldar - add eldar to that...
if I do the imperial mashup I've been working on instead of buying the eldar codex I get to get:
inquisition, sisters of silence, astra militarium, assassins (plus space marines/blood angels) for a whopping SIX codex required to play that one army.
Thanks GW.

Lol, I can only imagine the internet trolls now… comparing GW book strategy to Origins microtransactions (scaled up obviously)

Yay, only two books for me! I can say I eagerly await some points re-balancing on my end

Yeah, I can’t say I’m not hoping that tanks come down in points (hopefully). Or get a rule that allows them to not get auto-neutered if they get charged.

It's really weird because the reason they said they put all the points and such in the back is because if they adjust things you just print it off and put it in the back not invalidate the whole index.
Now the are like in a year or so the whole index will be invidated... lol

It is nice to have the increased durability, no lie there; but on the other side of that coin… If they’re alive but not able to do anything is it better that they’re alive? Or just blown up? Bubble wrapping tanks is even more important nowadays as if you leave a gap then you may as well have not taken it in your list. Or if your shielding unit gets smoked and then your tank gets T1 charged… that’d work to neuter them too, lol.

I wish they would just put stuff in an app. Keep the physical books for rules, relics and fluff, but have the points in an app with a built in army builder that can be updated on the fly. Seems like a no brainer in this day and age.

I think in general you will see the non flying vehicles come down in cost. I feel like they got worried about the unkillable list, but right now I'm seeing 1 maybe 2 tanks in a list, transport or otherwise. Not sure what the top table meta is but other than flyers I haven't heard too much from vehicles. Which is kinda why its too bad to see the new codex SO soon into the game. They have maybe 1-2 big tournament worth of data to make informed changes from. Would have been nice to see a 6 month gap then all codex at once with adjusted cost /rules for the 6 month meta game.

If it's a GW app I would expect to see like 4.99-6.99 per codex to add the new stats to the program. Now if its 3rd party it will eat a cease and desist if there is a wiff of money to be made OR you need a true saint to make a great app then throw it out for free and keep it up to date. I guess a man can dream....

I'm thinking that first codex was done and sent to the printers even before release day. I highly doubt they have less than a 2-3 month window to get enough hardbacks printed for worldwide distribution.
