I'm thinking that first codex was done and sent to the printers even before release day. I highly doubt they have less than a 2-3 month window to get enough hardbacks printed for worldwide distribution. Ya feels like a wasted opportunity to me. Should have sat on the index for 6 months then rolled out nice codex with meaningful points/rule changes and could have rolled them all out at the same time. Gonna have to assume the armies that get the codex firsts will have a leg up on those without one. With unique Warlord, Relic gear, points/rule changes...

Depends on the price. If they're like $60 codices then I'm fucking pissed they duped me into buying an index on top of it. I'd say we can count on $60 each... but you're fine on the first one... no blood angels, wolves etc. just space marines but yeah, I wish they would have let "index 40k" sort itself out for a little bit first. otherwise any actual codex changes don't really get a whole lot of playtesting do they? I mean if they're releasing 10 by the end of the year, something tells me they're pretty much done at least fairly soon due to print times right? (marines certainly are printed by now) I own vanilla space marine models, sisters models, GK models, and Blood Angel Models. If I want to have access to using all of my models I have purchased they're kind of forcing me to buy multiple codices after already taking my money for the index is my issue. Same goes for many Imperium players. Them doing separate codices for factions within a broader faction like that is bull imo. Should just have Imperium, Xenos, Chaos and be done with it. The whole idea was them forcing us to pay them less for these expensive hard cover books they love throwing at us and instead focusing on buying models and playing the game.

..yup seems like a complete 180... the more I think about it the more I'm not happy...
....the more I'm wondering if little tweaks between the index and the codex are all it is... there may be some "updates" written into my index. If it's a complete overhaul and lots of rule changes (and index 40k was just a reset and hold over til everyone gets a new codex) then I'm not going to have much choice.

This = 100%; I can't add anything that better explains my feelings on the codices.

The other issue I forsee for GW is with 5 books i have no problems shelling out some money...for 25+ codices, welcome to pirated content.
When the rule set cost so much and are so easy to pirate you will lose out on business. When the rules are cheap people can put cash towards models , which are harder to knock off then photo copying a book.

"Say a Space Marine Flyer lists dominate, but the new codex makes Flyers weaker, thus every Flyer victory is phallic." - From the blood of kittens articleHaha! I think they meant pyrrhic.

Lol, Lukas… don’t get me started on the grammar of this guy’s writing. There, Their, They’re – separate words, separate meanings. “There” is not a catchall word that will substitute for the rest.
Despite that, I do feel like his intent is correct. GW may have just shot the momentum of 8th edition in the face with the mass-codices shotgun.
