Usually there's a pre-order announcement two weeks before they go out. Seeing as the tournament is not this weekend, but the next, I wouldn't count on it.
I'm happy to see they're updating points and stuff from the indexes. Perhaps Crisis suits will get a points reduction, so it makes sense to bring them in numbers over commanders. I'm also excited to see if they do anything with the <sept> keyword, as they hinted at doing that with other races.

So not that I'm not excited but wasn't this what they said WOULDNT happen. each army getting its own book? I thought the idea would be that the Index get updated and you only ever really need 5 books but it looks like they are going back to 12+ unique books.

as having JUST bought all five indexes, the prospect of buying another 10 codex on top of this (yes, I have that many armies) is a little offputting... but I'm reserving judgement til I see what they produce (as their latest offerings have been pretty awesome) I am less happy about some of my mismatch armies needing me to cart several army books and the big rulebook again... I was happy to see that gone... but I guess it wasn't gone for very long here's from blood of kittens facebook: "This keeps in line with what GW was saying at warhammer world! 10 codexes by the end of year and they are currently working on 15 more! As rumored before I want to add Sisters I am 90% certain are part of the first 10 wave."

In previous editions with this major of a change, the indexes we just paid for were free. That said, the list of models needing base rules compared to other times this has happened is at least an order of magnitude higher, if not more. (Last time this happened was 40K 3rd Ed, and WHFB 6th Ed). These have always pretty clearly been "Get you by until the codexes come out".

Depends on the price. If they're like $60 codices then I'm fucking pissed they duped me into buying an index on top of it.

I'd say we can count on $60 each... but you're fine on the first one... no blood angels, wolves etc. just space marines but yeah, I wish they would have let "index 40k" sort itself out for a little bit first. otherwise any actual codex changes don't really get a whole lot of playtesting do they? I mean if they're releasing 10 by the end of the year, something tells me they're pretty much done at least fairly soon due to print times right? (marines certainly are printed by now)

they said july for space marines.
I also feel a bit off with this. They were like less rules. less books. maybe a codex later.
now look you are going to go back to a book per army again, and soon.
Im going to have to buy a lot. not as many as shannon, but 7 at least.

I'll fully admit I wasn't expecting this many, especially Death Guard. They way things were shaping up was consolidation. I was expecting something to the effect of Aeldari, Chaos, Imperium in Power Armour, Imperium not in Power Armour, etc. Certainly disappointing.

Well... they may be "the new GW" on the surface but they'll always still be the good old money-grubbing GW in their hearts.

Yeah, it's a bit frustrating. The money I spend on a Codex is money I would have spent on a model, not above and beyond. Sucks to spend 40 bucks on something I know I'll basically only own to be able to play in events that require me to own it.

Yeah, I was counting on something more in line with the Grand Alliance (or whatever the hell they were called in AoS) books. I mean, shouldn't be surprised they are doing codexes again, but hopefully these will be the only codexes for the edition, since they're still set on releasing rules for newly-released models in the box, like with the upcoming Primaris guys we're getting this weekend.
