those point reductions across weapons and models are really going to add up! Ya soon I'll be able to bring 2 battalions for even more command points. And I'll actually have strats to spend them on lol

Honestly, I'm just looking forward to seeing a Riptide with a Heavy Burst Cannon. They just look so freaking cool...
Hopefully the points drop is enough because that thing looks like it absolutely melts Primaris Marines or similar.

properly built and played Tau with the index are able to hang with the tough lists now (see Lukas' club championship performance if you have any doubt!)
with point drops, sept traits, warlord traits and strategems... oh man they're going to be feared again

So far, front runner for Septs looks like Bor'Kan to me. +6" for rapid fire and heavy weapons. Markerlights, pulse rifles, heavy burst cannons, plasma, high yield missile pods, and *dunn dun DUNN* the Y'vahra flamer all fall under that.
I could see a castle of T'au fire warriors to protect some Se'Cea heavy rail rifle broadsides or hammerheads. 5+ overwatch from the rifles and re-rolling to hit one of the rail rifle shots.
With fire warriors going from 8pts to 7, kroot better get a drop as well. They already blow compared to firewarriors at 2pts cheaper. At only 1pt, its a no brainer to leave the bird men at home. Either big points drop (like cultist level) or much better in melee, to bring them in line with the fluff. Talking two attacks, S5, ap-1. Give shapers a reason to exist as well.
I'm keeping in mind that all of these are rumours though. Not sure how accurate they are. They all seem reasonable for the most part. We should be seeing full codex reviews from the more popular youtube channels very soon. They usually get them right around pre-order time.

Weirdly the one of the biggest issues they haven't even hinted at yet is commander spam. You know its coming, it's one of the biggest gripes about Tau as it stands, I would have thought that would be a front runner of "leaked" info to show they are address the issue.
In that same line of thought, I was expecting tau Crisis suits to get a minimal point drop (5-8 pts) base or access to cheaper weapons ( reduce the weapon cost by 5 on a crisis suit) but also radio silence on that front.

One of the leaks said that commanders may be 0-1 per detachment, so 3 total in most formats.

With strategems like that, Tau are going to bust up the meta like an 800 pound gorilla.
3cp seems steep but considering they have no trouble filling out a brigade and the points are trending downwards....

I'm also expecting a "Hail fire" 2 CP strat that is pick a battle suit unit that has shot in the shooting phase. It may shoot again.
