Hi All,
I had some tournament ideas I wanted to see if the community was interested in. If we are I can talk to Shannon about it (and help organize if needed).
The first is one we've done before: twxtical escalation. This is the format where the first game is 500 points and each game you add an additional 500 points to your existing list, resulting in 2000 points by the last game.
The second idea is the opposite: Battle attrition. This would be where the first game is 2000 points, and each game you remove 500 points from your list to represent the losses of battle.
Thoughts?

The first tournament I went to was the last escalation tournament that was ran. I love the idea. So if I was to vote for any type of tournament to be ran that we don’t already do it would be that!

I'd be in for a proper Iron Man tournament. We ran one a while ago, but the format got all messed up because people didn't understand the real risks of the format.

I think a return to escalation might be interest. I would caution against the attrition as round one is random pairing which is your biggest game.
My only thoughts on escalation is with no PPM or no ability for some armies to add or fill 40-50 pts effectively. You might need to reconsider the point splits from the old 500/1000/1500/2000. Maybe a 750/1500/2250 or something? I remember the last escalation also including list building rules like once a model is in your list it has to remain for all other lists. This again might be a more difficult idea with army construction as people can't add 1 or 2 models to a unit to top up in a lot of cases.
Overall sounds like a fun idea.

I'm not sure how well it holds up in 10th in a tournament format. Everything dies so quickly a lot of armies would only get 1 game, maybe 2. Maybe we could do 2500 or 3000 pts as a start to extend it, or hard cap a round to 2 hrs or 3 battle rounds? I think investigating the format is worth it as it tend to bring some epic moments in war gaming.

We had 2500 point armies in the last Iron Man to account for hardcore attrition.
I feel like if we kept the 2500 to 3k like you'd suggested Jordan, we could then keep the round length the same; knowing that some games won't have a chance of hitting 5 turns. Scoring will be as much about battle points as it is about how many points you have remaining; which will take some manual shuffling and re-jigging. Not sure if BCP has the ability to sort that way or not, but it's a format I've always wanted to re-visit.
The gamble in "maybe I pay to enter a tournament for one game" makes for a bunch of different choices in playstyle, list construction, etc. etc.

Whatever you all want to do go for it, but personally I'm not running iron man again. WAY too many pissed of players.
If someone else wants to run such a monster, have at it.
5 people have fun and a bunch of others get mad. Like every other time I foolishly ran this format.
no thanks.

I'd rather play Escalation (or Deescalation) than Iron Man, personally - even my "tough" army gets tabled most games.

What about a tournament that a max unit size is 200 (including attached HQs) transports don't count...

I went to one of those at Nexus sometime between 2008 and 2010...it was a blast. But the key was the round timings, we only played like an hour of the full 2k point game before it was dice down and move on with what you have. Then again 5th edition was alot less lethal....

What about a tournament that a max unit size is 200 (including attached HQs) transports don't count... In Magic I think the event is called pauper. The idea people can only bring commons. I think it would translate pretty well to poeple can only being cheaper end units. You'd have to look and make sure all index can play in your point range. 200 pts including characters could be a good target. When you say transports don't count do you mean they are in addition to the 200 pts. Ex 10 beast snagga with painboss is 175 a trukk is 60. This fits in the format as the unit+ character is 200 or under and the transport doesn't count against thiwr point as any one can ride in it and the transport is also less then 200?

As for the points yes I think I under stand what u are saying but I get confused easily so in my head... 5 khorne Berserker is 100 points and master of execution is 100 so that would be maxed out. I now can put them in a rhino (75 points) (if I said the same think as u sorry) Obviously knights are out (sorry...lol) but I'm sure 90-95% of the army's can do this
