Started my own painting thread, since it seems like thats the thing to do around here. Should also give me a bit of a kick in the ass to pick up those brushes. Took some time out of some final projects to finish up these bird people. Little closer look Just gotta finish basing them. But wait! What are those big ol' stompy things in the background? Stay tuned for more!

Wooowee did the holidays kick my butt hobby wise. I thought I'd have so much time to get some serious brush time in, but no dice. I did get to do another type of painting though. I took my girlfriend out to one of those pottery painting places and whipped this guy up. Genuine one-of-a-kind Tau tear cup! It's pretty rough, but you try painting in the middle of 25 screaming 5 year olds who constantly bump the table! (pro tip, don't go on a weekend, that's when all the ankle biters are around) I might consider bringing my own brushes next time, the ones they had available had seen better days. One of the things I found interesting about the paints was how differently they appeared after being fired in the kiln. Before the went in, the goblet looked like this. Anyways, I do have a couple projects actually in the works now, so I should be able to show some actual miniatures soon.

Alrighty, got a bit more done. Here are some more Kroot, A different squad from the last I posted, I swear. Up to 28 of these little guys all done now. Here's a WIP of the Stormsurge who made an unscheduled appearance in my first post. Another fun project I've been working on is a display board for my army. This is my first time attempting any type of terrain building, so it's been a slow process. Lots of planning and then screwing up those plans. Here's it finally starting to take shape Note the use of recycled materials. That's a cupboard door I hope to pretty up with some stain or paint. One thing I'm particularly excited about is that black culvert thing at the back left. Check it out! Awwww yah, ominous red glow effect! It actually fades in and out, and I can vary the speed. The other black thing in the picture is the battery box, so I still have to hide it. Anyways, that's all for now. Only 6 more weeks until the tourny! To Do: -3 Broadsides -11 Pathfinders -6 Marker Drones -2 Gun Drones not on flying stands for my devilfish -Top half of the Stormsurge -1 Riptide -1 firewarrior (Used one on the stormsurge's base, so I need another painted up) -1 Commander Suit -Buy and paint an Ethereal. Apparently they're webstore exclusive. 27 models to go. Not to bad, but I'm a ridiculously slow painter.

very nice clean painting... big fan of the basing too! the display board actually is a good source of painting points which alot of people simply don't do, gives you an edge on the competition, especially when things light up looking good!

Thank you! Doing the basing is something I really enjoy doing.
As for the display board, That surprises me. Do a lot of people just use the boards from the back of Nexus? So far, it's been a very rewarding process.

I've seen people really scrambling at this tourney when they don't bring at least something to put their armies on. The boards at the back of nexus are gone usually gone pretty quick... relying on having one available for a big tourney like this is pretty risky... plus you know free points if you actually build a display board - not to mention it's guaranteed to fit your army properly!

The Stormsurge looks really nice and clean; good lines and very crisp shading. Not to mention anything with lights in it is automatically awesome. Can’t wait to see it all assembled on the table! Also, what Shannon said is correct, free points so why not?

Thank you gentlemen! Anywhoo, more progress has been made. Decided the cupboard door was a little, well, crappy. One trip to the hardware store later, and I got some cedar planks and some stain. Really crappy photo, and the stain is really fresh on there, so they appear darker than they will be. The display board itself is coming along. Here's a bit of an update Don't mind the shiny-ness of the rocks, I just finished spraying a layer of glue to hold everything down. Painted my first Ork ever, which my fiance affectionately named "Poobly" (Pronounced Poo-blee) Didn't spend too much time on the details, as Poobly will be spending all of his time permanently hiding out here. I'd like to think he's yelling "GERROFF ME LAWN, YAH BLUE GITZ!" Maybe I'll actually paint my riptide for the Golden brush now. I've been avoiding it....

I've just been told that Poobli spells his name with an i.

Work on my second riptide is going very slowly. I've got about 10 hours in on him, and he's only about 3/4 done. Tried my hand at some battle damage, which was nerve wracking. I think it turned out great, and once you see the pose of the model, I think it makes sense as well. I could darken the holes up, but i figured the Tau make their suits out of super high-tech polymers, so leaving them a little dull kinda works for me. A bunch of highlighting left to do, and the base.

Almost done the 2nd Riptide. Gotta clean up some lines, and finish up the basing. I figure this little guy had his battlesuit shot up and is waiting for extraction. He lost his pistol so all he can do is bide his time and hope the riptide can soak up some more shots.
