I've dusted off my what was left of my nid collection because 9th is looking pretty awesome. Wondering if I should pick up the 8th ed nid dex or wait for points adjustments? awesome to have another bug player! I am guessing there will not be a new nid dex for the next several months (first codexes come out in October... no idea how quickly after that)... you can always get by with battlescribe (points have been updated for 9th), but the strats etc. you'll need the codex (or cards) for.

Ok cool. I'll snag up a dex then. I havent played big 40k since the tervigon was introduced and didn't have a model. I'm heavy into killteam though and 9th is basically killteam but I get to use the big bugs so that's awesome.

Points adjustment is already out in the form of the Chapter Approved Munitorum Field Manual.....though you would still need the 8e codex to have the most recent stats/wargear for the Tyrnaids.

Couple of Necron leaked datasheet scans from the new codex.
Doomstalker is very much a bargain-bin D.Ark (pay fewer points, get weaker model). Hitting on 4s, 5+ invul instead of Q.S, 12 wounds and much less in terms of secondary weapons.
Meanwhile the 'new' Lokhust Heavy Destroyer has gotten an extra wound, moves a bit slower and has two gun options. The Heavy Gauss cannon is now s10 and 3d3 damage. The second is a 3d3 shots s7 -1ap 1d gun. Lot more in the 'mow down lightly armor infantry/sandblast invul-based targets' category.

hmmmm I for one like BOTH of these... the doomstalker will be much easier to hide than an ark and T6 3+/5++ 12 wounds is pretty close to the survivability of a greater daemon (1 less toughness, 4 less wounds) but has cool long range weaponry and is less power, so presumably less points. I'll likely grab a couple I think (and it seems MUCH better than the reanimator).
The heavy destroyer will definitely hit my lists for tank/knight hunting... I'm not a huge fan of one shot weapons, but the potential to do 9 damage to a heavy target is pretty awesome. I'm assuming this will get the destroyer cult keyword so the Skorpekh lord will give the reroll to wound aura. I'm also assuming that the stable platform rule for destroyers (no move and shoot penalty for heavy weapons) and the reroll 1's to hit will be baked in as well, increasing the reliability further.

Guess it'll depend on how much cheaper the Doomstalker is compared to Arks.
And the thing I really like about the new destroyers is that it's 3d3 damage. Means you're always going to be doing at least three damage to a target. Though the weapon change makes me wonder if the Triarch stalker is getting an upgrade as well. Because one of it's weapons was basically a twin version of the heavy destroyer's gun.

Lokhust with 3D3 damage looks powerful, and consistent. That's an MC/Transport eraser for sure. If you can land 2 out of 3 shots as unsaved wounds with that, that's an avg of 12 damage, more than enough to delete most vehicles and monsters who lack an invul with ease (Think Carnifex, Rhino/Razorback, etc). Against something like a Knight with a 4++ it's going to be a lot less effective tho. Power level 4 per model would indicate anywhere from Light Vehicle to Centurion like points costs tho (60 to 95 points per model). I'd guess on the higher end of that scale (maybe 80-85?) for sure based on the fact it's pretty much a Necron "Centurion" statline wise tho.
Doomstalker is interesting. 10" Move with D6 "krak missiles" (through only at D3 damage) looks really strong on paper. But T6 W12 is tough enough to attract dedicated anti-tank weapons which will easily bracket it down and once it's hitting on 5s it's unlikely to be able to be useful. I'd be wary of these.

Even though the Doomsday Blaster is Heavy D6 it is not a blast weapon. Interesting.

Even though the Doomsday Blaster is Heavy D6 it is not a blast weapon. Interesting. Yea that caught my eye as surprising. More due to the combination of the name and type. Heavy D6 on its own doesn't scream blast. Guess it's too late to rename it Doomsday Repeating Blaster

Even though the Doomsday Blaster is Heavy D6 it is not a blast weapon. Interesting. Which is in direct contrast to it's 'siblings' the doomsday cannon (on the Ark) and the Death ray (on the scythe) which are both listed as blast weapons.
So maybe their profiles are going to change in the new codex like with the HD's gauss weapon.

And as a reminder the ATV is 85 with the multi-melta (whose rules have changed) while the turret is 90 or 130 with the lastalons.
Looking at the sheer level of pain these things can bring for the point cost (you could take three squads of three melta ATVs for just 765!) I suspect we're going to be seeing a lot of these things showing up in tournaments.

the turrets, lol. moving 3" and being vehicles can shoot into combat lol And they can even advance if they want to.
Though somebody over on spacebattles noted that these datasheets are missing certain universal space marines rules etc (much like how the new Heavy Destroyer was missing hardwried hatred that all destroyers get).
So it's possible that these sheets are going to be part of pre-codex releases and we'll get the proper rule-set in October.
