Looks like Veterans are getting an extra wound - this is is consistent with W3 Bladeguard Veterans and Terminators, and W2 Vanguard Veterans (and Sternguard, ostensibly).

And the official reports and leaks continue. Firstly, yes it's confirmed that all marines are getting an extra wound and it's indicated that the chaos marines (plague, regular, Rubric etc) will be getting the same buff..
Dmarks will be BS2+, T5 and their sniper rifle is now a 36' heavy 1 S5 AP-2 1D with the ignore blocking units and extra mortal wound on a wound roll of 6+ ability.
Immortals are also going to T5, a second attack in melee (okay?) and the gauss blaster is now a 30' weapon.
The gun change for the Dmarks is quite welcome because now they don't need to be right in the enemy's face in order to do their job. Heck, I might consider bringing a squad in the future when the codex drops.

<sarcasm>I keep hearing so many exciting and promising reports about the game being fun and balanced and the Orks being in a good place - BOY HOWDY AM I STOKED FOR THIS EDITION! </sarcasm> Thankfully the quarantine gives me an easy excuse to "wait for a new Ork Codex"

orks won two major tournaments since 9th... so orks are actually in a really good place right now... especially since there's been like 4-5 total!

I have seen similar comments and then follow-ups saying that the lists are no longer valid... *shrugs* I do not know what to trust, anymore, online. Everything has a conflicting article that says the opposite. I did watch GMWG's battle report of Marines vs. Orks in which the Marines wiped the table and lost maybe 6 models... Felt like 8th all over again, to me.

The fact that our club firmly sits in the middle of the two is really the only reasons I've continued playing. Use both as a reference, but draw your own conclusions based on your own games and experiences instead of consuming the internet gospel. Trust me, it'll do you much better in the long run.

Chapter Tactics (Competitive Podcast) was chatting about top units in each faction today www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZImV9243BHoI took a listen through today to see what's hip-n-hot with the competitive kids these days. Interesting bits from my listen thru: Highlights: Tyranids looking much stronger than initially ranked. Top units are Hive Guard, Warriors, Rippers, Zoans and Pyrovores. They aren't an easy-win faction, but the right lists are extremely strong due to sheer volume of cheap Obsec they can drop onto objectives and hence their ability to play the objective game extremely well. Warriors stand to get even better as their strat to reduce D2 weapons to D1 will be very impactful when the marine wounds changes roll out Orks in a really good place. Ork Buggies won a tournament in AU, and there are several other high placing orks lists using Buggies + Trucks, and even a Goths Meganobs Spam + 100 Boyz board control list. Buggies and vehicle spam appears to be the core of a great list. The Burna Bomba is an incredibly powerful and annoying problem for your opponent via Flying Headbutt. It is probably the best strat in the entire game right now, it's considered insanely overpowered atm and is likely to get FAQed or Nerfed in near future. It's possible to do a huge amount of mortal wounds if your opponent doesn't realize it's coming and you can suicide your Burna Bomba into the main body of your opponent's force. Death Guard stand to massively benefit from the upcoming 2W buff, especially Plague Marines. Expect a massive points adjustment because a 10 man plague marine unit is practically indestructible to standard amounts of firepower. An example used was that a fully-buffed max Genestealer unit on average kills 1 and a half plague marines. Astra Militarium likely to start using massive flamer spam with the Catachan faction, especially once range-buff takes effect, Hellhounds and Double Heavy Flamer Chimeras are likely to be extremely popular units to create mech-walls for objective durability. Leading with tanks/transports and following up with infantry swarms is an evolving strat that makes them extremely hard to shift off objectives. Demolisher Tank Commanders are one of the most efficient and absurdly powerful choices available, taken as Catachans they can reroll their double-firing Demolisher Cannon shots. Custodes durability is insane given the number of CP they have access to in 9th. Especially Allarus Terminators and their supporting characters. Be prepared to dump insane volumes of firepower into them and to have to change targets once the Custodes players pops their defensive strats, otherwise you may deal basically no damage. Sisters in a really strong place as predicted in power rankings. Miracle dice allow them to make insanely long charges. Their biggest downside right now because GW is having trouble keeping up with sheer demand for their kits. If you do run into a Sisters player, they are gunna bring the hurt. Basically everything is good. Space Wolves are insanely annoying due to their ability to heroically intervene onto you. They have a unique ability to steal objectives from you during your own turn by heroically intervening onto an objective you are trying to capture for yourself, the only real way around this area-denial is to charge the space wolves first, through then you have the problem of trying to out-punch space wolves... Blood Angels Outriders are hilariously ridiculous on the charge due to the sheer number of attacks they generate for their points. They can generate upwards of 20 attacks from a unit of 3 models with the right buffs applied. Blood Angels play the new MSU game extremely well, expect them to have a lot of small units that trade-up really well. Space Marines obviously hilariously strong, numerous broken unit combos are emerging. White Scars with a Grav Devastator Squad in a Rhino is probably one of the best rapier strikes in the game, it can advance in your face and simply blow apart pretty much anything it wants immediately. Marines have a ton of unit combos which can simply kill their points values on the turn they arrive from reserves, with hardly any defense against it. Salamanders are expected to be the 9th Edition Iron Hands and should see top-tier play for the foreseeable. Lowlights: Genestealer Cults kind of lost their unique access to outflank with 9th since everyone has access to that via strategic reserves. Ridgerunners are just insane still but if people begin teching again the Invader ATV in the marine lineup, that unit is likely to end up with hard counters against it coming soon. Dark Angels are in a really bad place. Losing the Vigilus rules has badly hurt them, and they are likely to fall down in the power rankings. There's almost no reason to play them over vanilla Space Marines because their best lists are just vanilla lists with added Plasma Inceptors

That's because of the FAQ which said vehicles under 10 wounds didn't block characters anymore... but that was reversed within 2 days once they realized the impact... they were trying to stop two daemon princes from blocking one another as technically neither could be targetted because they were monsters. then they realized... whoops! and corrected their mistake. Oh, and playing against marines is just unbalanced right now. If someone is playing a tooled up marine list (or really just a decent marine list) you have to be a very good player with a very good list to stand a chance. And you have to play the mission exclusively. I find a LOT of 9th is like this. Mission first... kill opponent second. Watch more reports from tabletop titans and tabletop tactics - they are much friendlier games and do not go the ultracompetitive route.

Watch more reports from tabletop titans and tabletop tactics - they are much friendlier games and do not go the ultracompetitive route. This for sure! I'd also recommend Striking Scorpion 82 (SS82) as their league battle reports generally feature more narrative/casual play lists and I enjoy the entertainment of the narrative

*shrugs* We will see how it goes, if I ever manage to get a game in - I have to get back to Kingston before that happens.

There are plans in the works, but progress is slow... Need to find a place of my own (that I will be comfortable living in) for </$1000/mo. So far my google-fu has been returning less than impressive results, but already have a few casual/part-time gigs lined up and would, very much, like to get the painting/hobby club going again.
I will also need to set up some sort of queue for people who want to get a game in after I get back. (still struggling with the idea of being 'wanted' and 'accepted')
Any word on whether Legends units will work with 9th, or are all my buggies dust-collectors now? (not that they were all that great in 8th)
