So, troops will be useless? But I like infantry. Sucks for someone like me I guess.

Sucks for someone like me I guess. troops will still have a role, there is likely to be something they can do that others cant, like their good ol fashion 'objective secured' rule. you will likely see something like that here as well, giving you a reason to bring them to do a certain job. theres also lots of infantry that arent troop choices.

They did seem to strongly imply taking detachments outside of the main force would cost CP as well. Yeah I've seen that mentioned in relation to 'soup' lists. Though several of the armies don't really have the option for soup the way Imperium, Chaos and Eldar have.
So I have to wonder if the penalty will be for taking different Forge Worlds/Dyanasties/Chapters/Cults etc in the same army.

upping everything's points? ummm okay... I guess I won't buy that third invictor warsuit, the last thing left to buy and paint for my salamanders... thanks GW... you just cost yourself money. Universally... across every army. Good business sense there. Well when I came into the game at the tail end of 5th. 1500 pts was standard tournament fair. In 6th 1750-2000 was pretty standard. Maybe the new metric will be 2500 for what we are use too but we can see. The good thing about kingston is we vote and also run tournaments with wildly varied point 1000 teams, 1250 crusade, 1500 secret, 2000 clubs, 2500 iron man.

You been 90 boys and so that's 9x40$ =360 for 500 pts... I think armies might be be a little more what your faction is famous for will be good.

I'm pleased to see an overall points increase. Games have been getting kind of ridiculous in scope - and, in particular, it looks like they're valuing cheap infantry at a correct level. 4 point guardsmen and cultists were a mistake.

I feel the same way about the increase. That being said, I fear that here in Kingston the average point value for a game will creep up, so games will be the same size as they are now anyway, hahaha.

as I understand things, 2k will be the standard size, I don't see that changing... what I see changing is CP farming which is not a bad thing by any means. I'm guessing though that the abilities that regain CP are going to be seen as even more valuable when you cannot start with 18+ CP per game.

I suspect there will be a gain of one command point per turn like AOS just so that you always have something, even if you spend all your points before the game starts.
Also, we've pretty much always done 2k as the standard size, no matter what the larger GW world was doing. Remember 6th/7th where everywhere else pretty much was 1850?

from what i can remember from each edition to the next, we always to seem to get point increases at the start of a new edition and then they usually tend to bring points down after that. Makes it easier to learn a new rules set with less models on the table so people can learn the subtleties of the new rules.

well of course they do... we ARE the best gaming community in the world after all on another note... I'm thinking single detachment will be the competitive choice most of the time...

8th edition really almost punished you for not taking 3 detachments. I'm hoping this new way will kinda push towards having only one detachment to prevent soup.
Also I'm happy with points going up. Less models on the table makes me happy when I'm not running a horde of models. My back is usual sore after being hunched over a table moving 120 models for 3 rounds.
