-huge fist pump-
Oh yes..... I like. I like a lot.
I can't help but get Necron / Technomancer vibes from the Iconward after reading the above. Very interesting...
I'm already starting to noodle on list concept ideas since I kinda have to start over and throw out my half brood brothers idea.

yep, it's like the original GSC list from the first book seems like the new viable list.
patriarch, iconward magus
Aberrants and purestrains
Acolytes and neophytes.
Great because I had a ton of these models gathering dust. Weird because now other models will gather dust.
At least I get to put my painted seismic cannon neophyte on the board without feeling like an absolute waste of points! (small victory but I'll take it!)

The price increase on the goliaths puzzled me at first too until I realized the 6+ FNP has been replaced with Duty Eternal. Unholy smokes that's a big buff!
I feel like triple-incinerator-rockgrinder is absolutely viable to fill both a move-blocking and disruption/crossfire role while the infantry does the killing.

everything losing FNP is pretty bad news, as the aberrants did as well. But on the vehicles it's not as bad, as -1 damage will save at least as much or more as the 6+ rugged construction did.
The aberrants though... that's a big blow to their survivability (5+ armor doesn't exactly stand up)
I certainly hope that rockgrinders are usable now (I have three of them painted up) but really they're not hard to kill at all... even with the -1 damage and 3+ save.

Master Alchemist allows one unit of Abberants to get it back automatically at a 55 point tax for the Biophagus.
T5 and W3 boosts and keeping Duty Eternal for 30ppm is significant durability boost already. Duty Eternal vs 5+ FNP was a debate had when Death Guard had the same change a year ago, and it's even more relevant with W3. There's very few weapons that get multiple/volume of shots at damage 4 or higher that aren't far more expensive. If your opponent is content to vapourize 30ppm models with their anti-tank and ignore the other threats we can bring that's a solid trade imo.

I've had this conversation enough times with Typhus to know he'll die mad over it lol

Exactly... ask any death guard player how THAT worked out! (spoiler alert - not so great)
If your opponent cannot remove a T5 3 wound model with a 5+ saves then you must be playing a very different game than I am lol. I can barely have a T8, 18 wound model with a 3+ / 5++ and duty eternal live more than a single turn most of the time.
if the Biophagus can CHOOSE the buff he gives, then sure, that solves the problem. If it's a once per game random roll (like everything else, including the existing version) then it's nothing to bank on. "just roll a 5 or 6 when you absolutely need it" ummm okay. I'm not great at that.

I'm glad that GSC is getting some leaks, o will say I'm pretty curious to see where custodes end up tho.
Right now custodes are middle-high tier based on some insanely strong strats and some very solid forge world units, while units like bikes and terminators have struggled to play the game well in 9th.
I haven't seen anything other than +1 wound on bikes that shows me that's the units that needed help is getting any real buffs to wha they were weak at. I know matt Shared a link to what looks like a list of new strats and a bunch of the strongest seem to be gone.
Hoping to see some more custodes leaks that make show what they could be in new 9th

if the Biophagus can CHOOSE the buff he gives, then sure, that solves the problem. If you pay the 15 point upgrade for the 40 point Biophagus he gets to automatically (at list construction time) bestow a player-chosen enhancement from his ability list to a specific <CULT> CORE or <CULT> ABBERANT unit. I don't see why you'd take anything _except_ the FNP in that situation, but you technically have the option to take the exploding dice or +1 AP. If your opponent cannot remove a T5 3 wound model with a 5+ saves then you must be playing a very different game than I am lol. I can barely have a T8, 18 wound model with a 3+ / 5++ and duty eternal live more than a single turn most of the time. It's less that I'm having those units survive by rolling better and more that my expectation for a 150 point unit's durability is much lower. I expect to lose 50-70% of my forces every game, I just spend their lives scoring points and don't worry about it. If stuff is dying ultra-fast in your games, it could be terrain. I upped my table density at home to match the "gw setups" used at the US Open circuit and it's made a HUGE difference in unit durability. Especially infantry with their ability to walk through breachable ruins and project threat where other units like monsters and vehicles cannot.

The double the models for Look out Sir and for holding ob sec is pretty good, I guess its a good way to not give a whole army bodyguard but still have units that can lose a model and do their function. The make the units of 3 a little more robust for holding onto objectives when they count as 6 models, i guess its a toned down version of wounds. The sister stuff is interesting but I mean I don't think any one is playing custodes to play sisters of silence.

well I missed that... so that will be an auto-take for biophagus... essentially he's 15 points more than his sheet. always. every time. kind of like an apothecary hmmm I'm not seeing on that leak page where it says at list construction time. I mean I'd still take that upgrade every time then turn one give it to a 10 man aberrant unit, however if it's during command phase it won't work for ambushing from the underground. A trap sprung though seems very tasty with Aberrants.
