I'd argue there's a place for both in a future scifi game, but it would be nice to see some tracked primaris vehicles introduced. I would too, but it's not like there hasn't always been ton of hovering stuff from the earliest days from jetbikes to landspeeders (of which I have many!) to multiple entire xenos armies of hover vehicles. Hovertanks, though, had always been strongly associated with technologically advanced aliens while the more primitive recognizable forms of the Imperium emphasized the whole 'technological dark age' motif. I just think new and advanced-looking Primaris equipment erodes that theme. The retro aesthetic is one of my favourite aspects of HH and why I got many of its models for 40k in the past! What made me laugh insanely hard was this realization: Firstborn Marines -> mostly tracked vehicles, one hover vehicle (land speeder & varients) Primaris Marines -> mostly hover vehicles, one wheeled vehicle (invader ATV) It's like someone at GW just drunkenly decided to invert the design pattern of tracked vs hover vehicles.

Definitely agree on the speed painting value of the 30k stuff. I'm sure I'll be longing for that when I'm on the fifth day of painting trim.
But I really do like the new chaos stuff, and I know I'll be happier with that in the end. It's fairly unlikely that I'll start a second marine army of any stripe within the next decade, so I want to commit to something I'll get the most milege out of.

I'd be interested in starting 30k. Assuming I take the jump it would be death guard mostly because I already have around 4500 points of 40k death guard and because I want an excuse to paint the pre heresy scheme.

I'll add you to the list when I'm back at my computer.

Just throwing it out there, if anyone is in need of other firstborn bodies... there is a sizeable Dark Angels force in the sale thread...

I’ve been playing around on army builder and I can easily field a 2k point imperial fists army that is fully painted. Never played heresy before though but pretty eager to get into it.

Just ordered my first box of MK3 marines to add to my Rogue Trader Era marines that will probably get another repaint.

If you've played a pre-8th edition version of warhammer there'll be a lot of familiar elements. The new horus heresy is basically... what... the fourth edition of sixth edition warhammer? 6th Ed > 7th Ed > HH 1st > HH 2nd
So you've got your new mechanics like reactions alongside templates, instant death, initiative, armour facings etc etc. A lot of stuff that modern 40k deliberately moved away from but which evidently retained enough of a popular following to justify keeping it around in this form.

Just sorta waiting for the new rules to come out before I start digging to deep into it, but after that I down to play some games. I actually have a pretty legit setup at my place too for some gaming . One of the perk of living alone lol

Updated the legion list. Only missing Blood Angels and White Scars locally. The latest Siege of Terra book has a bunch of badass whitescars action.

Scars is very possibly my favourite standalone heresy book. It's definitely up there, competing with Know No Fear.

I was totally ambivalent about the white scars before I got to their stuff in the HH series. Now they're probably my favourite loyalist faction, though salamanders are close, and definitely edge them out aesthetically.
Counter to that, I thought the space wolves were cool before I actually read about them. Sometimes you just have to get to know someone before you judge.
