Points are going to vary a lot based on loadout, but without any upgrades or gear probably like 1500-1700?
The big thing you'll need is some sort of upgrades to turn some of the space marine bodies into something other than tacticals. Fire support squads with heavier weaponry, or veterans, or boarding troops, or destroyers, or special units available only to your faction etc etc. They're just naked bodies essentially huge number of directions you could take them depending on what you want your force to be.

That’s super helpful thanks.
So if I were thinking world eaters would building 20 of the tacticals with bolter and chain bayonet make sense and then maybe set aside the other 20 for after I’ve looked through the rules and potentially sourced chainaxes or heavy weapons?
I think at any rate knowing the box gets me around 1700ish is super useful
EDIT: chainaxes probably need assault bodies to work but I’ll probably still want to set some aside for something

I mean space marine bodies are all interchangable. Unless you mean assault packs all that changes are the loadouts. The rest is cosmetic.

It’s mostly that the arms are posed holding guns instead of axes and pistols and forgeworld sells the axes sans arms.
That said I remembered Kromlech exists and just ordered what I need to turn tacticals into marines with axes and pistols so thank goodness for third party

I got 20 chainaxes with arms, 20 bolt pistols with arms and I think it was about 90 bucks with shipping or so. Not cheap, but cheaper than buying 470 bucks worth of despoilers and chainaxes from forgeworld The stuff you’re looking for would be under “Gore Legion” on the bits of war website bitsofwar.com/76-gore-legion

Put me down for Dark Angels as well. Picked up some Cenobium Knights, Deathwing Companions and a Dark Angels Praetor today.

I have a question for anyone that may know.
Are there rules to play as traitor groups of loyalist legions, and vice versa?

Yep they're in the relevant army section of the book alongside their canon legion loyalty. So like the loyalist astartes book has Ultramarines, which includes what you need to play traitor Ultras.
They're mostly the same though, basically it's a special warlord trait.

I’m not sure if it’s the same with this edition, but I know some units are locked if you are a traitor or loyalist. So in the past you could play traitor ultramarines, but you wouldn’t be able to take Roboute as he is a loyalist. But again that might have changed.

As an update, my kromlech bits arrived. There’s some resin flash to be cleaned off (expected) but the quality of the sculpts look pretty good.

I believe it still works like that. If I take Saul Tarvitz I have to go loyalist and then can't take Eidolon. There was 1 traitor WL trait, 1 loyalist, and 1 anyone could choose. Loyalists are also locked out of picking the surgical enhancement centred legion focus. Not sure on the kakaphoni unit though. Anyone could take the other option, maru skara.
All the options are in the one book.
