Depends which side of the table you're on. Ctan fun 915 so... triple c'tan I'm guessing... which I agree with Kevin, is ONE definition of fun....

Depends which side of the table you're on. yeah. noticed that too after i posted. I think if your on either side of the table it can be fun. But i scrapped that list a while ago but forgot to change the name to Tests. Lets see C'tan fun had .... C'tans...Lots of C'tans. Thats fun right

Speaking of C'Tans, I think the Tesseract Vault will be sitting this edition out (unless the Codex changes things). He has a decent tool-kit but is skewed heavily towards dealing with infantry, characters and light vehicles/monsters. Coupled with his decrease in damage output (one power per turn) and taking the smaller C'Tans seems like the better bet.

I havent tested it out yet as i dont have one, but Doesnt feel right for the cost and what you get.

Honestly the best way I can see him becoming a proper jack-of-all trades which they seem to want would be removing the Blast keyword from antimatter metor and giving it anti-vehicle 4+ instead (synergize with the devastating wounds). That or increasing the strength of the attack so it can damage the t12/14 etc targets effectively.
So the Vault would then have a powerful anti-vehicle attack, a super-flamer for infantry and a character sniper that it can chose from.

So, i have run the silent king now in two games. He has survived both games. For the most part my opponents avoid shooting him. At 420 points he is a big investment. However, his phearon of the stars (aura) affects him so he hits on 2+ reroll 1s and wounds on 3’s for most and rerolls 1’s the only issue i notice is that the range of his attacks are all 24” . Which is the same for the monolith.
I ran him and 3 monoliths. The range of weapons is what got me. Three monoliths are too much, for points. Their great. But that combo best works with two i think. (More testing needed). They need added firepower with something that can target heavy lascannon or anything that has 40” or more.
On average i found the particle whip doing 11 hits, it is designed with its str 8 for infantry. I didnt do much for vehicles.

same problem I have with my exocrines... great for heavy infantry... pretty terrible for vehicles

Those Monoliths were terrifying for my Space Marine infantry! You could drop the Obelisk to add some board presence and trade one of the Monoliths for some dedicated anti-tank?

So, I picked up the codex today. There are a few things i just dont get. But Ill start posting ideas on here in the coming weeks.
First up however is the OBEISANCE PHALANX. Overlords Lychguard and Triarch units. First up. The Silent King, Imotekh, Trazyn the Infinite, and Catacomb Command Barges are NOT overlords. SO... Who do you take with this detachment. I am going to make it a mission to make this list work, but GW your not helping.

So territorial obsession is a strat that targets lychguard or triarch praetorians. But in the start it says “if your target is a vehicle”. But the starkers don’t have the praetorians keyword…. Wtf

In regards to the PHALANX detachment as it currently is, the only way I can see to run it would be to take 30 sword+board lychguard accompied by 3 phasing Overlords (765 points for the lot before enhancements). After that load up on DDAs, heavy destroyers and every bit of anti-tank you can. Maybe have the Silent King as part of the back-line?
From a quick poke at battlescribe I got the lychguard blocks with the overlords packing all the enhancements except for the kill character, enemy loses CP one, the Silent King, 3 heavy destroyers and three DDAs. Or drop the enhancements and take a deathmark squad.

Yeah. That is a smart way of running it. Just doesnt seem like that was the intent. Uggg. Its awful. At least there are 2 types of overlords.but aside from not being able to take 4 of the translocation overlords i dont know why you would take a normal one. …. Ill figure this out.
Should be noted the Johnathon tested out his canoptek Court on me yesterday. I brought a modified tau tank list. The court had a hard time punching holes in it. But they are super durable. Those 4 wound wraiths with a 5++ are really strong. And their innate ability to inflict mortals is annoying good. I think 2 units of wraiths are required in any lists. It took all my tau firepower to kill one unit ,on turn one.
Maybe i should put wraiths in the PHALANX detachment…..

The problem with Wraiths in Phalanx is that from what I can tell there is zero synergy. None of the abilities, strats or anything can help them at all. They'd be throw away units to try and distract from the rest of the list.
Hypercrypt can toss reroll 1s/reroll everything if setup this turn, or deep strike on their accompying technomancer.
Awakened puts Wraiths+Mancer at 3+ to hit and can have the veil or Stealth (-1 to hit wraiths at range is just obnoxious). Meanwhile Hungry Void lets them hit at S7 AP-2 and Undying Legions keeps them in the fight.
Though at the moment I'm poking at a Hypercrypt list centered around various C'Tan shards.

Well I had been building it with the models I have though......
As far as I can tell looking at the rules, there is absolutely nothing preventing you from Hypercrypting the T.Vault and then using the strat to drop it 3' away from the enemy.
Cool.
