Well for Astro, there actually isn't any requirement for "fluffy" lists, that's just what everyone brings... and as long as there's a comp system that makes sense (if we want to have one at all) there's really no "punishment" for bringing a fluffy list rather than a rock hard net list... Tommy had a pretty cool idea: Day one - 4 games at 1500 points Day two - 3 games - same 1500 point list, but this time it's a doubles tourney, where the top seeded person from day one is paired with the bottom seeded person, 2nd top with 2nd bottom, etc. This way one bad day isn't necessarily going to wreck your chances at a top prize as you can still succeed in the doubles... Prizes for: Best overall (points both days) Best General Singles, Best General pairs, Best Army (combo of painting and comp) Sportsman isn't necessarily a separate award... as we found out the last tourney, difference between top and bottom was 1 point... a different way to encourage sportsmanship is a simple check mark - this player made the game a good experience vs. this player made the game a bad experience... or something similar... if you're a jerk you should receive a penalty on your scores... if you're a typical nice guy... well you should be already!!!! I would also "borrow" (ie: outright purchase the Astro scenario CD) the scenarios from Astro... so each table had a unique scenario EACH day... 10 tables x 2 days = 20 different scenarios!

Well I'm going to have to talk to Mike soon to see if we can reserve a weekend at the store for it... and make sure those details will all work out...
I think as we get closer to this being a reality (if it's something everyone wants) we'll do separate threads on a few topics such as comp (which can get a BUNCH of different ideas!) and other things like that.
I'm totally willing to upfront the costs of the t-shirts and trophies because they'll have to be ordered way ahead of time... basically when you enter the tourney, you'll get a T-shirt as "swag" for part of your entry... plus some of that goes to the trophy cost... and then others to draw prizes....
maybe we could do the ticket system for draw prizes like they did at Astro? everyone gets 10 tickets to put into prize draws, and you can buy more tickets if you want (so you're actually putting tickets into a prize you WANT rather than trying to trade it in at the end of the tourney if you win!)

Also for sportsmanship I think a 3 choice system would be good (good = 2pts, average = 1pt, bad = 0)
and I LOVE the 2nd day being a doubles, that make me wanna go FAR more

GW never sends any prize support... I was thinking realistically $30 to actually cover enough prizes, tshirts and trophies.... but totally open to suggestions here (bigger entries = better stuff) not sure if $20 would actually get us any good prizes to be honest.... for example Astro is $80 entry and you don't get a tshirt included (they're for sale extra)...and they have 60 people attending and just break even...(higher expenses though of course!) I'm actually looking at expending some of my own cash up front to get this off the ground at least for the first time... so want to keep entries reasonable in price so we fill the place - but enough so we maybe break even at the end? (if I'm a little in the red when it's over it's not a huge deal if this actually works) thoughts?

Doubles would be hilarious on day 2.
I like the tickets idea, but I don't think you should be able to buy more than you are given. There's enough snakes in the grass with a multi pool draw system already.
EDIT:
Another thought occurs, you could talk to Mike about doing a pre-registration type thing where you actually get some money up front from people to both offset the costs and get an idea of how many people would be attending.

yeah for a two day thing with t shirts and nice prized 30 or 40 isnt asking too much i think, but what ever gets it going ill probably go ether way, like it would be so much fun and i haven't played many doubles games so that would be neat

well I was just guessing, and GW doesnt send you guys prize support? Richard in scalliwags is getting a battleforce (if we get 10 people, if not a few $30 boxes) for our league, you might wanna call them up :/ especially if we get like 20 people lol

My idea of a dream tournament is a Limestone City Championship:
- two day tournament, hosted annually, for 1v1 gameplay, 1500pts - prizes are awarded to anyone but the competition winner - the only reward for the competition winner is their name etched on a small nameplate as part of a large plaque - perhaps this champion might also have the choice of adding a short personalized saying on their nameplate too - this plaque is displayed prominently in the gaming area of Nexus - future champions' names are added to the plaque
