yep... but I think the sheer number of KP that Randy's dark eldar and my nids gave up kind of made that not matter much So even though really tough matchups could be possible, seeding first with last and so on means that at least it's as fair as we can make it... point wise anyways...

Lots of interesting ideas. Is everyone in favour of a doubles match on day two? Perhaps a poll. It would seem to me if you are having a 'championship' tourney the doubles would undermine that. Wouldn't it be better to have a separate doubles tourney at another time?

I'm content either way really, just put out my opinion regarding how I feel like the tag part would work best.

i would rather have a seperat doubles turnament. especialy if the big chapionship thing is going to be an anual event. mayby have a tag team turnament in febuary instead then have the big chapionship later down the road to allow for plenty of planing

a couple thoughts:
the advantage of the top-bottom pairing for doubles the second day is that if you have a bad day on the singles you still can win with the doubles, also it makes both days a completely different experience so that it doesn't get boring by the end of day two... as well you aren't punished competitively by bringing a fluffy list... disadvantage - it's still only three games to try and get a winner (just adds an extra winner to the mix)
the advantage of singles for both days is that it will take several more games to get a winner - therefore one bad game (out of three for example) isn't going to knock you out of the running, as it's going to be near impossible for someone to get max points for six games in a row (and if they do, well hey they clearly need to win best general anyways right?). from a pure "let's see who's the champs?" six single games is a more accurate representation than three -> anyone (ie even me!) can get lucky for a couple games... MUCH harder to get lucky six in a row!

Just wanted to also throw it out there that any tourney that I'd be running would put lots of points in painting, sports, comp, theme, etc. to encourage fluffy fun gaming. I know that this won't sit well with more hardcore competitive gamers, but I figure I should be upfront and honest with that before people start wanting to run with this idea.
There's the ard'boyz tourney which already happens every year for the ultra-competitive mindset... this would be something akin to the Astro format....
So when I was thinking "club championship" it would of course include "best general" which would be strictly Battle Points only... so if you win alot, this is your prize! "best army" is more for the artistic painting side of things... "best overall" is everything... comp, painting, battle points, sportsmanship... you have to be good at all aspects of the hobby to win it... if you're bringing an unpainted netlist, no matter how much you stomp face, you won't win best overall...
So it would still have competitive elements, but would really stress the total hobby element too...
just my two cents....

thats good because this is a group tournament so a more hardcore gaming we'd all hate each other

Hmmm....now I'm starting to wonder where I'm going to find the time to paint all my Warmachine for the slow grow & possibly begin repainting my Dark Eldar? ;D

Well the warmachine is SLOW grow.... so should be easy.... ....plus you need something to paint while your DE are in their simple green bath right???

Slo-Grow is like, 4 days for a centerpiece to be painted, or a heavy 'jack. Half that for a light 'jack. That's 2 weeks for a battleforce box, after that you have 2 weeks to paint anything that you add to the army at a time.
Seems pretty easy to me.

Ya but I'm a pretty slow painter ;D Guess I'll just have to risk the wrath of the girlfriend and just start doing some painting at home. Right now I only really do mine at work on breaks/lunch when I can. I guess it's more a matter of figuring out what I need to paint for my Dark Eldar since I really don't have a solid list as of yet. Guess that also means finding time to get more games in too

What's determined thus far:
this WILL be happening (as we have Nexus' support confirmed)
It will be two days of gaming
It will be singles (point level still being debated)
There will be trophies made: Best overall, Best general, Best army
There will be t-shirts
It will be in February....
That being said, how do we feel about either the weekend of February 11-12th or the weekend of the 25-26th (two people who've spoken up already would rather not the weekend of the 18th)
