so the statue sang. guard are coming along nicely... however the death company really need something to make them "hell" themed but still recognizable as death company...
considerations I've had:
- basing just the death company and Astorath on lava themed bases (although would have to come up with something to use as a base for the sang. guard that will set them apart)
- painting the death company with flames
- adding horns
- lava painted in armor cracks (ie: like it's a possessed suit of power armor filled with lava)
- replacing the marine helmets with bloodletter or other daemonic heads
thoughts???

Here's an idea, not sure if this would work (you'd have to test it)
Water down the some red gore or other dark red paint more about twice as much as you normally would. Paint it onto the models and let it dry, the extra water should cause the paint to flake a bit, this could be refined and give the models armour a crumbly lava like appearance.

hmmm... I just realized something....
dropping the jump packs off the death company and the fists off the priests would give me enough points to have the death company be 20 strong instead of 10... sure they wouldn't jump, but I'm wondering if 10 more wounds on a 3+/FNP platform wouldn't make up for it...
jumps my numbers up to 45 which is almost sort of nearly respectable....

Ouch 20 death company would be a lot to deal with. Give them all bolters since death company are relentless and u will have a tonne of anti horde shooting and cc

That actually might be a pretty solid idea, since DC don't score you'd probably rather have the choking up midfield, and 20 bolter company are nasty! especially with all the rerolls from astrorath

Well the models I have currently have jump packs, bolt pistol and CCW.... (bought them already assembled) so I'll likely try the jump first... before I rip everything apart.... lol.... yeah... if I want to try it I think I'll just buy those models over again... can never have too many marines right???

Well I completely underestimated how bad that was til I actually tried it on the table... problem is that I have very few models and zero long range support... with the crazy short range on the pistols they're near useless other than perhaps one unit dropping and popping something of value...
So here's going to be the core of the list:
Dante
four units of sanguinary guard with one power fist one unit of Sanguinary guard with four meltas and a fist (to drop with Dante) 3 priests with jump packs
this leaves me about 500 points... with the need for long range fire support being paramount, here's the two main options competing for my hard earned cash:
1 - 3 vindicators
2 - 3 squads of missile launcher devestators

a mix of vindicators and devastators to flavour would be best in my opinion

Update:
HQ:
Dante
Troops:
5 Sanguinary guard - 4 infernus pistols and a power fist (jumps in with dante) 5 Sanguinary guard - power fist 5 Sanguinary guard - power fist 5 Sanguinary guard - power fist 5 Sanguinary guard - power fist
Elite:
3 Sanguinary priests with jump packs furioso Dreadnought - blood talons & heavy flamer - drop pod
Heavy:
Vindicator Vindicator
2,000 points
vindicators provide cover to troops, 2 priests provide FNP bubble for rest of squads. Dante and his boys jump pack in without scatter and hit something nasty with 5 melta shots. Furioso drops in to cause havoc and be a big distraction that HAS to be dealt with...
thoughts?
(I know Justin will like it given he suggested it... lol)

My limited opinion is that the 2nd list provides you with more overall ranged firepower.
