"The Stormsurge also has the Walking Battleship special rule which allows him to Fall Back from combat and still shoot, while also ignoring the penalty for moving and shooting heavy weapons. Stormsurges will remain a solid choice in the new edition."
I just hope they're now point costed accordingly...

A big thing to remember about these faction highlights is that they're highlights. They only want to say how stuff is getting better, so people will still buy models while waiting for the edition change. Notice how they didn't call out any changes to the riptide. Now that there's no riptide wing, guaranteed it won't be as much of an auto take now. They don't want to telegraph this to their consumers though.

Tau are likely to be boosted with their non-riptide choices actually... I'm pretty sure given who the playtesters are, they're a little sick of nothing but riptide wing, and Tau being stuck at mid-tables (albeit dominant there) at the big tournies. They're trying to make every army viable and fluffy and able to also compete. I think the Tau will come out pretty damn nicely in the new edition.

Marker lights making units reroll ones.
Also stormsurge hits on a 3+. Maybe all tau do now marking less marker lights needed.
Keeping them balanced and fun and close combat should still be their bane.
Here hoping I can make my triumphant return to tau this edition lol

Ya i think tau are looking really good but they still have the trap of we have to get everything done in the shooting phase ( some help from overwatch but still).
With the new assault rules and pulling people into combat and such it does look like combat will be a blood bath. This might be the army that will melt in CC phase.

I think of all the armies, battleshock is going to hurt Tau the most as they're not exactly survivable when they hit melee... I'm thinking the ethereal might get some form of battleshock mitigation (akin to stubborn) otherwise things could go downhill very quickly... ...especially since we can probably count on the riptide getting... adjusted

Well other than some rare ninja-tides riptides hit like a wet sponge in combat. So with some solid charging and that 3" pull into combat effect. I see the one ways disapearing pretty quick.
Also even if riptides say as is with a 2+ 10ish wounds. The lack of riptide wing and Ignore cover AP 2 being an all or nothing and D6 hits from large blasts now.
The dynamics of the new game alone help pull riptides back into a more reasonable spot.
Im pretty excited to see what the army hold in 8th.
Come on stealth suit and ghost keels seeing a little more love

Tyranids will win... RIP blood angels...
(okay, sure GW will NEVER let the nids win one of these, but I have hope they'll give us one!)

Didn't they win against the Blood Ravens in DoW 2?

With the new marines on the horizon I wouldn't put it past GW to kill Baal thus rendering it unable to supply the Blood Angels with any other recruits.
Gives the Nids a win, the existing Blood Angels will flee off-planet and GW will have a story driver for why Blood Angels have the "new marines" in their ranks.

The new AP mechanics will go a HUGE way to making Riptides less terrible. As it stands now, mass AP2 will shred them, anything else has no chance. If "lesser" heavy weapons are now taking them down to a 3 or 4 up save, it's going to feel way less impossible to deal with them.
