...and given model count is now the new obsec (in pretty much all the missions, number of MODELS controls the objectives) this gives a benefit to low model count armies, in that they'll be done deploying first most likely, and therefore at least get to pick who gets to go first.

Ya interesting they went with models not wounds for control. I see it being a better system as things with multiple wounds can change very wildly during the game. Definitely see the horde style of play returning to 40k after the reign of the War con and stuff with lower model count but hard to remove abilities.

makes doing a MC bash or nidzilla style list too risky... you actually have to have bodies on the field or your chances of winning are too low... I like it because it really encouraging a combined arms style of army building as the best choice... you know, rather than giant psychic powered deathstar....

just about to post this myself... my scorpion seems a little dirty now... plus with his rules if he's in combat with infantry he can just shoot anyone he wants. 20 wounds, healing one a turn, with a 3+/5++ seems rough... the psychic mortal wound protection is kind of cool though - very specific, but kind of a cool thematic rule. it's weapons are pants-on-head crazy though... those claws... holy crap... that's just wrong.... 8 attacks with 3+ to hit (which it NEVER got before) at S14 (previous 10) with -4 AP (previously AP2) and SIX damage each? (previously obviously 1)... gross... the ability to shoot a monster/vehicle with D6 shots doing 2D6 damage S12 AP-3 seems unnecessary as well... I mean I own this model, I want it to be viable... but this seems a little much... thanks Forgeworld (sarcasm button engaged)

wow... that thing is intense! Also, looks like laser destroyers will really, really satisfy a role in armies. 3D6 damage per hit on a 6 to wound?... see you later knights.

They were in the Imperial Armour books for Astartes of all flavors as well as some Guard models. They functioned as an Ordnance Lascannon that was often twin-linked for Astartes or a single shot for Guard variants.
I'm glad with the changes to be honest. I feel like the 3D6 is a bit over the top as some hot rolling would turn that into a particularly hateful pile of wounds in a hurry but not getting double the shots is good. This is a jumping off point after all, and we don't know how many points it'll cost to upgrade weapons into Laser D's.

Welp, I'm hoping the balancing is in the points costs. I mean Wraithknights are minimum 485 now so they seem to understand some relative proper points costing this time through.

The point conversion is roughly 20pts per power level, so you could bring a knight and some other stuff for that cost. As it stands, he seems amazing. Definitely a large threat, but with how many things do multiple wounds, he may not be the be all and end all. A melta knight getting to shoot and then a charge off would be a serious contender to put him down, especially if he has a lascannon devastator squad soften the scorpion up a little.
