Lol... Yeah everyone agrees nightbringer is stupid good Yeah, I can see him being an auto-include in most/all Tournament-style Necrons lists. Becuase there is no situation in which he's a bad pick.
Daemon engines and Nurgle forces in particular are screaming in terror because he goes "Yeah, you don't get FnP any more, or invul saves, or even armor saves."

watched him in a battle report one shot a greater daemon with 3++
pretty much nothing in the game is going to live if he hits it. Primarchs die in one round as well.
They went way overboard with this one model.
But I'm sure there will be ways to deal with him.... against some armies (tau) it's not even fair though.

Ultimately you need decent damage output in shooting and either melee or psyhic in order to drop him. Of course for Necrons the answer is easy: To fight a Nightbringer, you must have a Nightbringer of your own and try and swing first in the melee.
I can see a sort of jockeying insanity between two Nightbringer lists because it's the Shard that gets the charge will be the one to win (unless they roll horribly on the damage dice). And if you move too close your opponent will get the charge. So the shards will be dancing back and forth trying to see who blinks first/goes after another target.

It's too bad the Nightbringer isn't getting updated to match the size of the Void Dragon, though it's still a nice model. I've seen lots of good conversion ideas using Mortarion as the base that I think would work out amazingly.

Creature Caster has a really cool nightbringer model as well (much bigger and cooler than the GW sculpt)...it unfortunately is sold out for some strange reason...lol

So what's the point of the Vassal Kingdom option then? I mean you're just playing one of the six big dynasties in all but name.

I have no idea. I just scoured the book looking for some sort of bonus... nope. Nothing. paint scheme is all I can think of

yeah there's literally no point in taking it... I'm looking at a custom one though - combination of relentlessly expansionist and eternal conquerors... sure you don't get the specific strats for the dynasties, but having the obsec of Nihilakh with a pregame move seems pretty solid. I played Nihilakh on Saturday and the other perk of the dynasty (ignore -1AP in deployment zone) seemed pretty situational.
command protocols are going to take some getting used to... I completely forgot each round which one was coming up next - I was just as surprised as my opponent!

I. Re read command protocols last night. Your warlord has to be a noble, and a noble is on the table. But any character then works as the 6” bubble for it.

yeah any character can provide the bubble, but you have to have a noble to get them. Which is fine I guess, as it's not a huge tax - too bad nobles outside the silent king are kinda "meh"... but they're not too pricey at least.

As for custom dynasties, Expansionist looks like something you'd always want (free 6" movement? Yes please) but for a melee army, Rad-wreathed seems pretty huge. I mean with that your S.Destroyers and Wraiths are wounding marines on 2s. And since the entire army aside from scarabs are S4, you're going to be wounding even Knights on 5s.

Yeah well not for Kingston but yeah I’m sure some people are picky. as for the rad sensitive Necrons. That’s my escalation force. That is my favourite. -1 toughness for the win. Makes people second guess if they should assault you. Also assault a monolith that is rad sensitive. Loose 3 aggressors a turn.

Think you'd need to have the Monolith assault the aggressors. Charging the Portal of Exile without invuls isn't exactly the smartest idea unless you can just drown it in bodies.

part of me wants to have three monoliths in a superheavy detachment running around the board chasing things like giant pacmans...
I mean... not enough to spend the nearly $600 to buy three monoliths... but it would look pretty awesome
