Daily hobby continued to be a distraction from the outside world this week:
Day 20: Blue on Stormdrake Guard Riders//touchup on Dragons Day 21: Bases on Stormdrake Guard Day 22: Got a game of AOS in! Bought another Lokhust Heavy Destroyer at the store and assembled the lower half Day 23: Finished assembly of Heavy Destroyer and airbrush undercoat Day 24: Basecoat and wash on Heavy Destroyer
Looking forward to a 40K game tomorrow. Aim to keep chipping away at the Stormdrake Guard over the weekend and coming week. With big centrepiece models I am fearless with the basecoats and then I get all shy with the detail work...
I am enjoying reading everyone else's hobby here!

And another short week. Only 2 hours, but better than last week. Anybody with a chronic medical condition can confirm that there is never a good, or even neutral, time for it to act up. The Scorpius' hull has 7 colours and decals. The scuffing and chipping of the hull has been layered up and now it is time for the weathering effects to be added. The turret and launchers are being done as sub-assemblies and are further behind but still have enough to be table top ready if necessary. I'm aiming for more than that. Time to get down in the mud, the blood, and the beer and get 'er done!

The week finished off well.
Day 4. Completed building snake ladies, started building khinarai. Day 5. Completed building khinarai. Day 6. Continue painting Blood Sisters (unit of 10).
Will have to look at my storage/transportation options this week, so that will be one hobby evening spoken for.

Much better this week. 4 hours, 10 minutes, and a 3 times finished Scorpius. I've been stalled on the winter effects so that I will set aside for now and move on. Right now I would feel confident entering it in a contest. As it was a gift from my son I really wanted to go the extra distance on this one and I have.
Next up: a Deathwing Contemptor?

Day 25: Drybrush two layers on Heavy Destroyer Day 26: Blue layers on Heavy Destroyer weapon/orbs etc Day 27: Base on Heavy Destroyer Day 28: Saddles/tack on Stormdrake Guard Day 29: Weapon layers/wash on riders Day 30: Weapon details on riders/ scrolls and pennants Day 31: Highlights and touchup on Stormdrake Guard - found many errant brush strokes on little bits of the Dragons Day 32: Final touchup on models for AOS tourney - had missed some sigils etc on various models Day 33: Played in AOS Tourney/ won box of Stormcast Vanquishers - assembled two that evening Day 34: Assembled five Stormcast Vanquishers Day 35: Finished assembly on Stormcast Vanquishers and undercoated them
I will spend the next week or so working on the Vanquishers. I find SCE get table-ready quite quickly, but take a little longer to get the details.

What are you stalled on winter effects? A specific product or choosing a method?

I'm fine for products and methods. Options are not my problem. The sticking point is the aesthetic I want in where to place the effects. Until lightning strikes (probably more like static shock from a doorknob) I will set it aside. Since it is sitting in a spot where it can stare at me in full out righteous indignation and disappointment I am not likely to forget about it.

Well, that's the worst of the options. I hope inspiration strikes hard.

Day 36: Laid the gold basecoat down on the SCE Vanquishers and applied a shade// also played a game of AoS! Day 37: Painted blue on cloaks/armour as well painting the weapons/ applied wash to those areas Day 38: Brightened up the gold, painted the weapon harnesses etc/ Started on bases Day 39: Impulse buy of Slaves to Darkness Start Collecting - Assembled Lord on Karkadrak and Chaos Knights Day 40: Assembled Chaos Warriors// applied texture to all bases
I have committed the cardinal sin of starting a major project before finishing another one, but the Slaves to Darkness were calling me and my Khorne troops need more "punch" and less units with goofy names.
I will lay down basecoats quickly on the Slaves to Darkness and then perhaps finish the Vanquishers.
Assembling the Chaos dudes was OK, but these have to go together a very specific way. They look great, but I don't have that same feeling of accomplishment when I have control over how the model will look. Looks like computer assisted design has taken over. Still, a fun build listening to some AoS content and contemplating how to assemble that pile of skulls for Khorne.

So a little under time target last week but not awful. The Deathwing Contemptor is well under way but the decals I wanted to use have gone walkabout. I was burning up painting time as I searched for them. I found alternatives so it should be done this week. As a consolation prize I completed a FW Cyclops Demolition Vehicle, so still racked up a unit. Just need to gain some ground on numbers soon. Will probably have to stick to some less ambitious (creative) stuff with simpler requirements in order to up my numbers.

So with the 1st Quarter of 2022 drawing to a close its time to take stock of completed work:
AOS:
4 x Stormdrake Guard Dragons (these guys took a lot of work) 3 x Stormsire's Seekers 1 x Gardus Steelsoul 2 x Liberators 24 x Dwarves (these guys also took a lot of work, but had been in my pile of shame for 20 years...)
40K
5 x Deathwing Terminators 5 x Incurors 5 x Immortals 2 x Heavy Destroyers
I have 10 x SCE Vanquishers almost fully painted along with 16 x AOS Slaves to Darkness who jumped the line..
My longest streak was 44 Days. Pretty happy!

That is impressive. And those dragons look great. I have not completed quite so much. Fortunately the only one I'm competing against is me from last year, and that guy did NOT have his shit together.
I've started working on the centigor conversions I've been planning for a year and a half. I've had the marauder horsemen for a bit, finally picked up the box of sacrifical gors. So much plastic shaving. Not going to be a quick job, but I always have fun with this sort of thing. Plus I'll end up spending less on a unit of 10 than I would have on 5 of the metal models. Win/win.

Win/win. Thanks! The Dragons were a fun project at which I just chipped away. Day 41: Airbrushed basecoat on Slaves to Darkness Start Collecting army (1 x Lord on Karkadrak, 5 x Knights, 10 x Warriors) Day 42: Airbrushed highlight coat and applied a wash Day 43: Got a game in! Came home and guided my daughter through painting a Half-Ork Paladin she got as a gift for her boyfriend Day 44: Painted the skin on the Karkadrak Day 45: Shade on the skin, painted the armour and weapon details on the Chaos Lord Day 46: Painted the boots, straps etc on the Chaos Lord on Karkadrak Day 47: Painted horns and teeth on Karkadrak, cleaned up the base// Also prepped the bases for my shelved Vigilors A fun week - I enjoy painting the Chaos dudes and getting a game in with them along the way (even if they weren't done yet) was great for motivation. Watching my daughter (she's 18) enjoy the results of her painting was also great! They play D&D every Saturday - she doesn't play tabletop wargames but at least she D&Ds!

A better week. The Deathwing Contemptor is done! Kind of a relief really. 3 x Primaris Outriders are under way and should proceed without hiccups. (I know, "said it out loud" so to speak. Might just pay for that.) Hopefully being Ravenwing will simplify things.
New product: Woodland Scenics Waves. I placed large pieces of my tumbled glass "ice" front and back of the fig and wanted a bridge between them that could be dusted with snow but still be transparent and shiny. This stuff can be ladled on with a craft stick or sculpting tool. Transparent like the Realistic Water but with a consistency more like Vapo-Rub. It can be worked in to shapes up to 2.5 cm high according to the label. Dries to the same glass-clear material as the Water. As always, try Nexus before you shop elsewhere. And no, I do not get compensated for the plug. Just like to support my local store.
If I'm lucky I will be well in to a 5 man Primaris Assault Squad by next week. Everybody get those brushes or tools going. Have a good one!

Worked through the week, focusing on finishing the Slaves to Darkness Start Collecting box:
Day 48: Weapons on Chaos Knights and Warriors/ faces as well as horses Day 49: Gold trim on both Day 50: Straps, boots, fur Day 51: Washes Day 52: Highlights and basing - Done! Day 53: Basecoats on proxied Slaves to Darkness Daemon Prince and Chaos Sorcerer (he is from my 90s Heroquest game!) Day 54: Continued to work on those two models - the Prince is pretty much tabletop ready but the sorcerer needs some work
This week, I will complete those two random fellow and then finally finish the Stormcast Vigilors
