So I'm calling my streak suspended for now. The Surfer is still on my bench but I need surgery on my painting hand and it has been acting up. No idea when/if it will settle down agaiin. The kit is washed and no surface filling needed. This is an original so no knockoff issues. (BTW, I misread that inventory code. It hit the shelf in '94.) I have done some heating and trimming for fit as well as some stuffing of the body parts as my research indicated should be done. And if you ever do one of these vinyl kits, DO NOT use a heat gun (no, I didn't use one). Just warm or hot water or a hair dryer will do. Either is more than enough to soften the vinyl. Whoever started recommending a heat gun is nuts or has access to a very low power one. Anyhow, I will continue to potter along as I can and update accordingly.

I'm interpreting "hobby" fairly broadly here. Several years ago I acquired X-Wing when it originally came out. Never found time to play but assembled a good selection of forces across the factions. Since my hand is still acting up I pulled it out of storage this week and have started teaching myself to play. As I recalled, it looks simple but is very much a game of angles. Why learn a defunct edition of the game? Because I have it and it keeps my mind in the hobby/game space on a functional level. And why not learn how to Tokyo drift a starfighter?

So still ticking along with X-Wing. I acquired a small mountain of stuff I am sorting through. This while eyeballing the new HH stuff coming down the pipe. I haven't mastered 9th and am seriously considering putting another rule set in my head. With everything from Rogue Trader (yes, I've been around THAT long) to 9th crammed in there plus other systems I'm not sure there is space available. But, why not? The worst that could happen is my brain dribbles out my ears. Right?

Took a pause as work and life was getting very busy, plus I seemed to be out of models that I really wanted to paint!
Rebooted a couple of weeks ago - going with a less stringent definition of streak: if I am on a work trip then no hobby, and family engagements take priority. So while this shows two weeks it was really two and a half weeks due to those engagements.
Day 1: Assembled some Iron Golems from Warcry for my Slaves to Darkness Day 2: Assembled more Iron Golems (nice models that have to go together in a particular way) Day 3: Assembled the last of the 16 Iron Golems Day 4: Applied base material to Iron Golems/ magnetized the bases Day 5: Undercoated them - also got a game in! Day 6: Basecoated flesh (Ionrach Flesh) Day 7: Finished basecoat flesh - then washed Day 8: Balthasar Gold on brass parts (lots of that, tricky application to avoid flesh) Day 9: Finished Balthasar Gold// Reikland Fleshshade on gold Day 10: Fleshtearers Red (Contrast) on most metal Day 11: Leadbelcher on steel parts/ Nuln Oil wash Day 12: Thunderhawk Blue and Nuln Oil wash on weapon grips Day 13: Cleanup mistakes Day 14: Cleanup/highlight bases/ highlight the flesh with Deepkin flesh (there is always another paint to buy...)
A fun, relaxed paint following along with Duncan Rhodes. He offers no speed hacks, but I find I enjoy the results and I usually learn something along the way.
I will spend the rest of my week cleaning up all my Slaves to Darkness for the tourney next Sunday.

I guess I want to find out if my brain will dribble out my ears Picked up the big HH box last week but haven't had time to open it with the holiday weekend. Combined with my collection of first born SM from 40K I should be able to field a decent range of options under the DA banner. Will definitely look weird with black, green, and bone armour running around in an HH force but you have it, use it. Less dusting if the units are active.
Also got my mountain of x-wing sorted. Surprisingly even collections of Empire, Rebel, and Scum so lots to have some fun with.

Catching up my log!
Day 15: Assembled Slaves to Darkness Daemon Prince Day 16: check for mold lines/gaps and undercoated Day 17: Basecoat Khorne Red and shade Nuln Oil Day 18: Black and Metal parts/ Washes on metal parts Day 19: Highlights, eyes etc
Took a two week break after the Age of Sigmar tourney.
Day 1: Basecoat on 5 x Bolt Action Germans - 81mm Mortar Team and a Panzershrek Team (German Cam Orange Ochre) Day 2: Camoflague pattern (Fieldgrey, German Cam Black Brown, German Cam Bright Green) Day 3: Webbing/Boots/Gaiters Day 4: Flesh/ applied washes Day 5: Highlight/cleanup
These guys had been sitting in my pile of shame since Summer 2012
Day 6: Reapplied airbrush camo to a Bolt Action Mk IV Day 7: recess wash of Agrax Earthshade Day 8: Tracks/metal/Crewman
Changed gears again:
Day 9: Assembled five AOS Stormcast Vindictors Day 10: Kitbashed a Stormcast Lord Castellant using a surplus Lord Relictor model and bits from the Vindictors and a Knight Venator kit I had from three years ago. This was a fun, spur of the moment project and while you can still tell that there is a Knight Relictor in there I am pleased with the result! Lots of sawing, cutting and drilling. My fingers were died green by bedtime due to Green Stuff, crazy glue and plastic cement. No injuries!
Now to paint them!

I did some painting yesterday! First time since my mom passed away two months ago. It was nice to be at it again.
I also did a small amount a tad bit earlier today. Mostly just touch ups to yesterdays work. I'm currently waiting for paint to dry, which is always boring, so I came here for now. Hopefully I can get a proper streak going.

Congratulations on getting back to it. Every little bit helps and a small start seems appropriate.
I'm also starting back in to painting. While god knows how far down the specialist list I am, let alone how long surgery might take, my hand seems to have improved a bit on its' own for now. So the 2nd five man squad of assault intercessors is under way, even if my grip on the brush is a little odd.

I'm sorry to hear about your hand.
On another note, I more or less just finished the bases. Just need to paint the rim of the base now.

Not sure how well this might work for you, but when my wrist and hand get weak and gets shakey I will take a tensor bandage and do a few passes around my wrist then then across my palm up to my thumb, down the back of my hand and do some more passes around my wrist. I find it helps stabilize my hand and helps with me bot having to grip as hard on the brush. Also im assuming you do the supporting/planting method too? Hope this helps and I hope everything works better for ypu in the future.

Thanks for the tip and instructions. Kind of you to offer it. My issue is more fingers/hand than hand/wrist but you never know when information will come in handy.
I have started detailing the assaulters and done one of the washes as well.
While they were drying I began initial drybrushing on an alpha generation Whirlwind I had previously re-base coated after cleaning it up. I picked it up 2nd hand pre-Covid with an atrocious paint job. I've reversed the position of the launcher plate to put the launcher array at the front of the chassis. Using the original placement it was so ass heavy that the slightest touch made it stand up like it was popping a wheelie. Hoping to proxy it for one of the HH launchers.

Day 11: Undercoated the Vindictors and kit-bashed Lord Castellant Day 12: Basecoat (Retributor Gold) and wash (Reikland Fleshshade) Day 13: Got a game in with them! Applied Cantor Blue after the game Day 14: Screamer Pink on weapon hafts, Leadbelcher on weapon heads and chainmail, Nuln Oil on both areas Day 15: Lord Castellant Lantern work (bunch of orange, yellow and red plus wash) Day 15: Started assembly on Annihilators (I enjoy changing gears between assembly and painting even if it in inefficient) Day 16: Finished assembly on Annihilators Day 17: Undercoat Day 18: Retributor Armour and Reikland Fleshshade Day 19: Painted bases Black on Annihilators and Vindictors - also got a game in! Day 20: Cantor Blue, Screamer Pink and Leadbelcher on Annihilators plus wash Day 21: Cleaned up armour on all// Mehphiston Red on plumes Day 22: Cleaned up bases from all the splotches, highlights on armour to fix tea staining Day 23: Aggrellan Earth on Vindictors, Annihilators and Lord Castellant
I find painting Stormcast Eternals very therapeutic. I relearned how to paint following Duncan Rhodes through the AOS 1st Ed boxset tutorial videos a few years back and its a detailed but low-stress journey.
Now to work on some 40K Stormtroopers.

Day 15: Started assembly on Annihilators (I enjoy changing gears between assembly and painting even if it in inefficient) Me too. I like having a build project, and a paint project on the go and that way I can switch gears if I kinda lose my motivation
