From BOlter and Chainsword
New Chapter Approved leaks, here's a couple from two different sources:
- no more subfaction soup (no idea on how it's going to be phrased, though)
- (most?) detachments will be losing slots, excluding battalions and brigades. Namely, patrols seem to be losing one heavy support and one fast attack slot.
On top of the leaked custodes points, here are some leaked ones for SoB:
- Morvenn Vahl +15
- Novitiates +2.5
- Sacresants +2
- Paragon Warsuits -10 (per model)
- Exorcists -10
- Immolators -10

Interesting! Glad to see subfaction soup disappear for Matched Play. It was already rare, I suppose, but I like the concept of committing to a subfaction.
Patrols are quite good in terms of slots. Limiting to one Hvy and one Fast will certainly affect some builds. Not sure how I feel on this, but hey, mixes things up.

The Patrol detachment was definitely seeing use as a way to cherry pick across subfactions or reduce troops to unlock more slots for particular builds. Not that I think those builds were too bad except at the very top ultra competitive level.
It is nice to see the system start to come into a finer balance. There's a lot of folks crying wolf the game is unbalanced right now. The reality is (and always has been) the ultra-competitive-tournament-scene is what's the problem. There's a lack of new broken skew builds to replace the ones that were nerfed by the balance dataslate and everyone is assuming that the drukhari damage reduction build will run rampant for the next six months (spoiler alert, it won't).
I think that GW is doing a good thing by not limiting nerfs or buffs just to points changes. Changing points is an extremely limited way of affecting game balance and I have been very happy with their approach so far asside from a few minor bystander casualties of the changes in 9th so far.

Honestly the no subtraction soup is really crazy since a ton of armies (DE, orks, sister) often have 2-3 different splits.
I know a bunch of my ork ideas would be invalid by this. I like to soup in the fight last in orks.

DE will be hit pretty hard (at least the top builds currently) by the no souping... as the talos/grotesques are best for damage reduction, but the rest of the codex really benefit from something else! especially some dark technomancers added in for Cronos... cult of strife for blender succubi, etc.
probably intentional.
so much for my kronos/kraken nid lists... all embrace Leviathan as the only choice!
this will also REALLY hit GSC, who have specialized units that are really good at specific roles. Those jackals, ridgerunners etc. don't really benefit from the melee cults... while aberrants, metamorphs etc. don't benefit from shooting...
interesting times for sure. Will really mix things up!

I think that the Crossfire rule in the new GSC codex already requires mono-subfaction to be in effect? So this may well be the way forward for Matched Play.

I dont think Coven/Kabal/CUlt soup will be hurt (as its baked into the codex)....I think taking multiple different Coven (or cult or kabal) is what will take a hit.
As a general rule ive only seen Coven builds go for the multi coven type build....there is too little benefit for cult/kabal builds to bring 2 different types unless you really want a 2nd unit of over priced blood brides.

The Eldar rumours also seem to indicate that you loose your craftworld bonus rules if you army isnt mono-craftworld....so could certainly be the wave of the future.

At least for Orks I think that if you are going to have to go mono-Kultur that only Freebootaz and Goffs are going to be left standing. Evil suns and deathskull are both great for a small dip to get some stratagems/relics and obsec but nothing else. Snakebites and badmoons are going to be almost non-existent in a mono world.

Crossfire has a specific exemption for <25% Brood Brothers, but even 1 point of Tyranids it's no-bueno. I took a look over Goonhammer's latest GT results post from today at lunch, guess what's on top? Admech Mars/Lucius combo, Tsons Time/Duplicity combo, Drukhari talos/cronos split builds.... Warm up the nerf-hammer. GW is on it like donkey-kong.

Judging by my experience w testing another game made by an ex GW designer Its likely tgat they never considered ppl would soup subtraction as a way to gain efficiency/advantage on the table. The ppl who design these things very much don't play that way, nor do they think pplvwill choose to play thatcway...and often brush off plwytester concerns as being fringe cases until things go wrong out ib the wild.

Points hike on the Volkite Contemptors is as expected, chassis went up by 20 points base, and the Volkites themselves went up 30 points per gun! Previous = 150 New = 230
Canoptek Wraiths up 10 per model base
Scythed Hierodule went up 40 base
