I think it's about time I started my own hobby thread, rather than continue to hijack distractedcarnifex' thread. Thanks for letting me jump on for the past year.
Why 5K? Because the points are not that critical but it does give me something to shoot for over the year. (Subject to change without notice. I tend to surprise even myself.) I picked that number by what else? Rolling a d10. At some point I will get around to that imgur account to add visuals.
Day 3 and I've changed it up. My Christmas project is on hiatus. I re-set and have been working on a squad of 5 assault intercessors and an Eversor assassin who is getting the Red Skull treatment. I've also revived my spreadsheet and updated it for 2023.
So Day 4 awaits. I wonder how much time I can get in?

I look forward to following another hobby thread this year. It does help my motivation to read (and see!) what other people have been working on. I too would settle for 5k. My own goal is to finish a new army this year. Anything I manage on top of that is a bonus.

Agreed on the 2 armies worth but given my meandering interests I doubt my results will appear in that form. But since people have been posting the lists of what they have to choose from, I thought I would do the same, even if just to organize my planning. 40K: Classic Dark Angels (some may find their way to 30K) Primaris Dark Angels Orks Harlies Eldar Imperial Guard (old painter, old models) GSC Imperial Knights Leagues of Votann / Squats (see above for IG) Tyranids 30K: Dark Angels (Anybody sensing a trend?) Assassins Kit bashing a BSG Viper Mk VII into a Xiphon Interceptor Terrain: GW (loads of it, not even on the tower of shame) Bandua (Mike shouldn't have had that sale.) Misc. others Aeronautica Imperialis: Imperial Navy Orks Kit bashes for my Ork airforce: Tamiya 1/48th F-84G Thunderjet Airfix 1/48th Sea Harrier Revell 1/48th Huey Hog Gunship McFarlane Artists Proofs: SM Hellblaster Ork Big Mek Chaos Space Marine And of course: Miscellaneous Not as much as some but what I lack in a lengthy list I make up for in volume with some groups. I am choosing to view this as a vast array of choice rather than a daunting task. Time to start swinging a brush. *EDIT* So now that I see it printed out in full, maybe my list is actually longer than others.

This first week went well. I hobby-ed 6 hours in 7 days. Probably a record for me outside of tournament deadlines. It broke down like this:
Day 1: Dark Angels wash on 5 assault intercessors. Black coat on assassin. Day 2: Set up Jan. 2023 spreadsheet. Start colour coat for Red Skull Eversor assassin. Day 3: Metal and red details colour blocked on intercessors and assassin. Day 4: Inventory of possible projects in 2023. Blocking colour details on assassin. First coat on bases for both assassin and intercessors. Day 5: Winter camo for assassin. Eyes for SM. 2nd coats on all bases. Day 6: More winter camo for assassin. Never done winter before. Start detailing SM bases. Seraphim wash for all 6 bases. Day 7: Touch up and black wash assassin, lay down water effects for strafing effect around assassin (24 hr. drying time), touch up intercessors, flesh tones on SM.
Not bad for somebody as slow at painting as I tend to be. The assassin base will take a while to finish as I have longer drying times for both the water effects and sculpting paste I will be adding but I hope the end result will turn out okay. I can see real potential for ridiculous but hope to do better. Once again the time is being dragged out by including a secondary piece in addition to the main unit but I find it helps to bounce between them.
I hope everybody else on the painting threads also had a good week. Shannon, the bezerks look great.

I had allowed for 1 "typical" unit or character per week. This is day 12 and both my assault intercessors and Red Skull Eversor are done! So I've returned to a partially painted Warglaive from a while ago. Might be able to be done by Saturday night if time and things go really well.

Week 2 and still going. Upped my time to almost an hour and a half per day. A lot of that boost was taking time to visit the HH tourney at Nexus yesterday, but I'll take it. Day 8: Repainted metal base details. Posted weekly progress on thread. Begin weathering SM armour. 2nd black wash on assassin. Day 9: Green line SM armour. Nuln oil wash weapons and metal. Biel-tan wash on SM. Red & brass accents on Red Skull assassin. Run beads of Water Effects with hopes of creating snow sprays. Day 10: Dip, coat, mount snow sprays for Red Skull. Drill out barrel, small accents for Red Skull. Base 1 SM. Touch up SMs, add company emblem to knee pads. Day 11: Sculpt base of Red Skull. Unit & honours decals for current 5 + honours decals for original 5. Matte coat for all figs to seal decals. Gloss coat for injector and poison rounds on assassin. Day 12: Finished basing for Red Skull (100) and Assault Intercessors (195 for 10). Dry brush, decals, start stalagmites for Warglaive. Day 13: Washes for Warglaive. Begin sculpting snow base. Added to stalagmite material. Did small touch ups needed on SMAI. Research and select DA HH unit. Black coat, eye lenses and pauldron studs on HH DA x 10. Day 14: Visited HH tourney @ Nexus. Research on recaster.
That Warglaive needs the base finished so that's this week. HH Legionaries are underway and will focus on those 10 for the week. May each of you be productive in your own way and happy with what you create. Everybody have a good one!

Still going on Day 22.
Day 15: Posted last week's streak. Snow flocked warglaive base, built up stalagmites. Added steel details to bolters, backpacks, joints on DA. Added red details to bayonets and sights. Began grey lining armour. Day 16: Comparative pricing recasters Day 17: Research. Grey line 8 SM. Wash bolter red parts. Drybrush metal. Brown coat on bases (10). Warglaive DONE. Day 18: Nuln Oil wash & unit decals x 10. Red trim for helm crest base & dry brush. Day 19: Tidy & condense basing material. Varnish decals on unit. Base all with sand, gravel, and tufts. Unit DONE. Day 20: Begin work on imperial knight. Allowing rest of month for this. Collect paints, etc.. Assess praetor model. Day 21: Update spreadsheet and consolidate bookmarks to folders.
Two more units completed this week. And since I now have two warglaives finished I thought it was time to tackle an imperial knight as all dogs need a dog walker. This unit was built several years ago and has the basic colour blocking applied so I'm not starting "fresh" on this. Old business that makes sense to complete now. Giving myself lots of time as this will be my first attempt to complete a model of this size and I don't want to pressure myself in to making mistakes. And I have two more assembled and base coated with a fourth NOS so I want to establish a good understanding of how to work on this size. Maybe look for a youtube of how to paint imperial knights. I think I will have to name this first one "Sir Guinea of Pygg".

Not one of my better or more productive weeks. Wound up at emergency Tuesday evening for 7 hours (I'm okay and recovering, just a week of meds with nasty side effects and another of recovery). We need to pay those people more for coming in to work and showing the grace under fire that they do. It was a total zoo on what should have been the quietest night of the week.
That being said, I wasn't completely unproductive:
Day 22: Posted to this thread. Day 23: Researching recasters and weathering products. Day 24: How to videos for painting knights. Day 25: Organized my boat load of hobby links. More knights videos. Day 26: A variety of how to's and other research. Day 27: First day I was able to go down to my hobby space and spend time there. Not for long, but I got started on the knight. Day 28: More work on knight. Watched Black Magic Craft video "How I fake being a miniature painter". Fun piece that reminded me I'm aiming for better table top presentation, not worrying about painting competitions with all of this. Shot pics of some of my completed projects from the last 13 months.
That's it for last week. Starting a new week so hope all are healthy, motivated, and enjoying the hobby. And I've been busy today too, but that's another post. 8)

Day 36 and I've already got some work done on my Knight Gallant. Not a bad week overall.
Day 29: Updated pic file. Joined Imgur. Started uploading. Posted to thread. Day 30: Finish posting to imgur & links to thread. Day 31: Line & highlight knight. Day 32: Continue highlighting and black wash knight. Day 33: Messaging on board. Red wash sections of knight. Day 34: Drybrush steel. Make and apply yellow wash. Research. Day 35: Black wash metal trim & workings on knight. Search for transfers. Select and cut transfers.
In the first month I managed to average just over 1 hour a day on hobby-ing. That feels good to me. At the moment I am focused on the knight, but have only transfers and base to complete. Like the warglaives it will be winter themed. To anybody who took a look at the imgur links, thanks for checking them out.
Stay warm and healthy and have a good week.

Managed to hobby every day since last post, but getting time to post again has been a challenge. Superbowl, family, you know.
Day 36: Start applying transfers from multiple sources. Post to thread. Day 37: More transfers. Day 38: Seal transfers. Find and work on banner. Decide on "ice" for base. Re-paint space for DA chapter alliance markings, both 30 & 40K. Day 39: Found missing bits for knight. Work on painting and attaching. Painting squished ork's arms & weapons for base. (What ork? Where?) Day 40: Masked & colour blocked banner. Drybrushed and mounted squished ork to base. Continued building ice stalagmites on warglaive base. Day 41: Finished banner. Ork done & re-glued one arm to base. Touch-ups. Ladder rungs added & painted. Start on base. Day 42: Attached banner. Tested ring light for taking pics of minis. Sculpted base.
That was last week. I've been having a hard time trying to adhere to the "improved tabletop standard" objective. This knight has been getting me to apply more and more details that aren't necessary for my objective but still seem to be the right "fit" for the model. It's bogged me down some but I'm happy with what I'm seeing. I hope to have some pics on imgur at my next post ('cause that will mean I'm DONE).

He/she's done! One Knight Gallant ready to hit the table. This one has some versatility built in. When I constructed it I magnetized the legs, torso, and top gun mount for easier transport. I also mag'ed the shoulder pads so I could change out the weapon load. When I get extra arms built and painted I can table any version I want. Imgur links below: imgur.com/gallery/aOARHHUAnd walking the dogs: imgur.com/gallery/VOuHGyqIt was fun to do but I think I will give the knights a rest for a while. Day 43: On-line assembly instructions search. Checked set of sculpted material on knight base (not set). Day 44: Flocking of knight's base. Start blood effect for squished ork. Day 45: Completed blood effect in snow for dead ork. Scraped excess sculpting material from sides of base. Added detail to top guns. Post to thread for last week. Day 46: Lighting, photos & editing. Post to imgur. Day 47: Touch up black coat and start metallic details on HH DA Praetor. Day 48: Attached cape incorrectly. Take apart. Will paint in sub-assembly before re-attaching. More metallic details on praetor picked out. Cape colour blocked and base gold trim coat. Day 49: Work on power sword. 2nd coats of colour on cape. More metallic details picked out. 2nd coats on base. Visited Nexus to view club champs. A week of productivity I'm content with. Finishing the knight brings my total completed units to just over 1000 points YTD. I'm still managing to put in just over an hour a day of hobby-ing. I also indulged myself and added a couple of older projects to imgur (links below). As before any comments or suggestions would be appreciated for use on future projects.
