Lord Al Mighty nudged his steed forward from the docks and pulled slowly away from his elven companion. Following the road past a ruined building into an open courtyard, he paused as his mount whinnied in alarm, its nostrils flaring as iron clad hooves stomped the ground. Across the yard, a parody of a knight stood astride a ragged mount whose flesh was decaying while its hollowed eyes burned in fiery hatred. Lord Al Mighty immediately recognized the heraldry of his foe, Maldrik the Crazed, and issued a challenge to the vile creature of the night. Quickly taking a sip from his flask, he prayed to the Lady for her aid as he braced himself to receive the charge.

Maldrik bellowed in rage as he stepped away from the severed head of his mortal brother. Someone had gotten to them first, someone had killed them, and in doing so they had ripped away the sole purpose of Maldik's existence. In that moment something gave way in Maldrik's twisted mind, and he became posessed with a rage that would make even a daemon of khorne give pause. Frothing slightly at the mouth Maldrik turned away from the corpses of his family and long-forgotten "friends" only to see a knight on horseback clad in gleaming armour watching him purposefully from across the courtyard. As their eyes locked, the knight began to pray. Maldrik scoffed at the pious fool, perhaps under better circumstances he would have offered him a chance to join his order. But such thoughts were swept away in a fit of uncontrollable rage, with a bloodthirsty screech Maldrik charged the knight. Tonight, he would feast.

SUN-YA slowed her quick pace as the trees had begun to thin out and came to a halt at the tree line edge, not wanting to reveal her presence in the openness that lay beyond the trees. She adjusted the hood of her specially made forest attire so that she could see more clearly in the late evening light. Covered from head to claw in an enchanted cloth with only her penetrating red eyes showing, allowed her the freedom of movement throughout the forest with the impressive stealth normally reserved for only the most experienced warriors of her kind. It had been a necessary requirement for her survival given that her unfortunate affliction meant that she could be spotted surely from the northern reaches of the chaos realm. Casually, she removed the last of her dinner that had become lodged between her razor sharp rows of incisors, and tossed the leg bone back into the woods. She’d hardly taken time enough to have a meal in the last few days and although she was temporarily satiated she had always found rats to be way to greasy and never enough meat on the skinny little bones. She decided that it would be best to approach the desolate city of Shael only under the comforting vale of the night sky. The scents of many different races had been assaulting her keen awareness these last few days and she could only assume that because the scents remained strong as she travelled that the owners were moving the same direction as she. Prudent caution was advisable. She lowered herself into what might have appeared to others as a crouch, then lowered her massive head and promptly fell asleep.
When she woke night had arleady settled fully over both the land and water. A single bright "star" shared is immense glow and yet failing to crack the blackness which had accended over the land. A perfect night for a swim, she thought. For SUN-YA had already decided that it was more important to move into the heart of the port city as quietly as possible. Besides, when she was in the water she always felt more at home. Crossing the barren sands, needlessly exposing herself to her enemies both known and unknown was not an attractive proposition. And that didn’t even include the nasty horrors, which tended to dwell beneath the sands, waiting for some unsuspecting traveller to wander into their clutches. SUN-YA had learned long ago that sometimes the hunter becomes the hunted, and she had no intention of becoming anyone’s pray this night, or any other, as a matter of fact. Into the clearing she crept moving with quiet grace to the waters edge, pausing only briefly to check for any signs of pursuit, before slipping quietly into the cold evening water and made her way to the port city’s inner harbour, and eventual goal, Shael’s palace of ruins. “Surely, I will find what I am seeking there” she thought to herself, as her powerful tail lurched her forward in the water, her anticipation growing with each stroke.

Vladamir rode off into the ruins, heedless to the calls from his companions to stop immediately. He had the scent of prey in his nostrils, as did the juggernaut, and once that deadly missile was launched, there was no turning back. Gibgobbin could hear the thunderous hooves of the metal beast charging through the streets, becoming uncomfortably close. The thoughts of hiding himself gone at the sheer fright of the approaching beast, he let out a squeal of fear and urged Elf eta forward to flee.
Vladamir saw his prey hop frantically out of an alleyway, looking fearfully behind him. The Khorne warrior became even more enraged at the level of cowardice displayed by the goblin, overtaking the squig and slashing downwards with his sword. Gibgobbin felt the sting of metal and blood begin to pour. He slashed back at the warrior, however due to the pain could barely manage to strike, glancing harmlessly off the steel plated Juggernaut. Elf Eta could sense his master was in trouble and spun in place, turning the full retreat into a counter attack.
“Noooooo” screamed Gibgobbin, but it was too late. The squig who had more guts than brains bit at the warrior, grabbing his leg and pulling him from his mount in a tumble. Vladamir rolled to his feet, unhurt and even angrier at the discourtesy. His juggernaut meanwhile had circled around the goblin, and snapped his metal jaws, nearly severing Gibgobbin’s head. More blood flowed down the goblin’s arm and he frantically hit his magical talisman, wondering in vain why it’s protective magics were not saving him as they had so many times before.
Vladamir charged forward, slashing at the goblin like a mad man. Gibgobbin had his footing now though, and deftly avoided the strikes. His own return blows were unhampered by the painful magics of the warrior’s sword, however the protective armor proved too difficult to penetrate. Elf Eta meanwhile kept turning in circles, snapping at both warrior and mount in a frustrated spin, only serving to hurt his teeth on the impenetrable armor. Gibgobbin felt dizzy with all the turning about and fell from Elf Eta, landing heavy on the broken cobblestones. With a loud snap, the juggernaut finally found the goblin’s neck, and ended his life with a sickening crunch. Vladamir drove his sword through the squig, ending that threat as well.
He jumped back into the saddle of the juggernaut and rode back to the spot where he thought his companions had been left. The ruins deceptively looked the same though, and soon he was completely turned around. It was almost as if the whirling sand had changed the landscape around him, frustrating his progress and confusing him.
----------------------------------------
After battle thoughts:
The trickster’s shard was the big winner here. Gibgobbin was great at his armor saves, as was Vladamir. The trick was having to reroll those wards… suddenly not as survivable! Vladamir himself only scored one single wound… the other two were the juggernaut! The warrior’s 1+/4++ and higher weapon skill really made it difficult for the goblin. Had he not had to reroll his wards though, this could have gone very, very differently. This fight went three rounds before it ended.

Vladamir stood in anger as he felt lost in this mystic land. As he turned his anger on a more important matter has he mounted his Juggernaut he yelled "your lucky there is distance between us you Slaanesh whore i will find you and your False god" as he road passed the mangled body of Gibgobbin Vladamir's Juggernaut riped the little goblins head off as Vladamir laughed.

Beef didn’t really care that the dwarf wanted to scout the area. All that sneaking around was find and all, but in the end it always came down to who was going to be the biggest and strongest. There was treasure to be had in this place for certain, and Beef would take all he could carry, and probably all that dwarf could carry too. For now though, he needed a place that was secure enough to keep his treasures safe, and comfortable enough to sleep off some of this firewater. He pulled the doors free of a few ruins, instantly not happy with how insecure they were. He then spied a half crumbled structure that appeared to be an old inn. That for sure would have some old beds to crash on.
The door opened easily enough, but at least didn’t fall off its hinges. He made his way inside, kicking aside some debris, garbage and the occasional squeaking rat, laughing as he did so. He stopped suddenly at a high pitched voice challenging voice.
“Care to try that with someone your own size?”
He turned to see that there was a rat clad in armor, which was almost eye to eye with him. This was of course because the skaven was standing on a litter carried by hunched attendants, making him more than double his real height.
Beef began to laugh even harder as he pulled his axe from the sheath on his back.
“I think I found our dinner.”
Beef was surprised by the sheer speed of the skaven, who came at him much faster than he thought possible. The fury of strikes from the rat could not penetrate Beef’s solid armor though, and the stabbing of the attendants carrying the litter were too hampered by trying to keep their lord aloft to actually be much of a threat to him. Beef smashed at Mr. Doomblade over and over again, driving the litter backwards with the sheer force of his blows. The warlord’s armor could only withstand so much, and he felt the wet slick of blood and the shock and pain of the gorebull’s axe.
This did little to slow Mr. Doomblade however, and the skittering movements of the attendants frustrated Beef, as he was unable to connect with the quick moving rat. The skaven managed to stick his sword between the armor plates of the gorebull, but found the thick hide was still able to turn his blade aside.
They circled one another in the main serving room of the Inn, knocking over the dilapidated tables and chairs in their efforts to battle one another. Both however, were unable to get through the other’s defenses. The warlord was just too quick, and Beef was just too well protected.
Mr. Doomblade decided to try and different tactic, and scrambled from the war litter to climb up the back of the gorebull, cutting at the thick matted hump behind his neck. Beef howled in pain as the sword cut deeply. He flung his shield into the warlitter, causing the attendants to scatter. He then used his shield hand to grab onto the skaven, ignoring the attempts to swat his hand away. He grabbed Mr. Doomblade around the neck and slammed him into the floor. He continued to slam the skaven’s head into the floorboards, splintering them with the warlord’s face. Beef did not stop until the last quivering movements of the skaven ceased, and nothing remained of his face but a bloody ruin. The attendants had dropped the warlitter and were scrambling for the exit, falling over one another in their haste to escape.
“Not so fast” Beef growled, “Now you’ve gone and made me mad”.
The screeching of the attendants was drowned out by the howling wind outside.
-------------
After battle thoughts – the skaven had a ton of attacks and better weapon skill… so was hitting a lot… but T5 and a 1+ armor save was just too much to handle… the one wound that got through the armor actually caused a wound due to the trickster’s shard (again a very useful item in this arena!) Beef having a large number of attacks at S5 eventually wore Mr. Doomblade down… although this fight did go a full five rounds (and two of Mr. Doomblade’s wounds were lost in that final fifth round)

Iron fist Bob had not thought it to be this far back to the camp. He had been partaking rather heavily of the ale they had brought however. The sight that greeted him running over the dune however could not possibly be a mirage, no matter how incredulous. A black haired dwarf, small even for that race, was racing towards him axe raised for battle. With a battle cry Iron Fist Bob met the challenge with his own sword raised, calling on the might of Sigmar to increase his strength exponentially.
Ivan knew that he wasn’t the tallest of his kind, or the fastest, but he was confident no one hit as hard as he did. That surety left him with a sudden whallop as the seemingly fragile human smote him with his sword, all the while calling upon the strength of Sigmar. That hurt! His arm went numb from the shock of the blow, and he nearly stumbled and fell. Swinging his great axe upwards, he managed to clip the leg of the arch lector, making him stumble in turn.
Iron Fist Bob slowed for a moment, testing the injured leg. It would heal with some blessings, that was for sure. He struck out with his sword of righteous steel, but the dwarf was more wary, and he was unable to get past the chaos armor. Ivan retaliated with a series of blows that should have cleaved Bob into pieces. It was made even easier by the fact that Bob had paused, grabbing the holy relic around his neck, and took a moment to pray. A shimmering force surrounded the arch lector, repelling each killing blow. Iron Fist Bob then drove forward, attacking again looking for openings in the defenses of the chaos dwarf. Ivan parried the strikes with ease, and the priest was tiring quickly.
Ivan struck with surprising precision, and Bob felt fresh blood course from his opposing leg. Falling forward, Iron Fist Bob struck again, but Ivan was again ready, and easily deflected the attack. Ivan smiled evily, and slammed the great axe into the priest’s head, ending his life.
Ivan could hear the shouts of alarm from the two grandmasters from camp. They had heard Iron Fist Bob’s war cry and the sounds of battle, but they seemed to not be able to locate their location. Ivan slipped away into the night, intending on regrouping with the gorebull. A successful scouting foray indeed.
---------
After battle thoughts – well this one went four rounds. The first round Iron Fist Bob was on fire! Hitting on 2’s and wounding on 2’s with a -4 to the armor is awesome… not so much after round one though when he was wounding on 5’s with a -1 to the armor. Notable round was the second one where Iron Fist Bob failed three armor saves in a row, only to roll triple fours for the ward! Basically in true dwarven fashion, Ivan just took the big initial hit and ground his opponent down eventually wearing him out.

Lord Al Mighty bowed his head in prayer even as the crazed vampire came charging down the street towards him. He barely moved or showed that he even realized the monster coming towards him. At the last moment he raised his shield, deflecting most of the attacks which unerringly marked him. The last skewering lance strike met the protective barrier of the Lady, and was likewise turned aside.
Maldrik roared in frustrated anger as his nightmare reared up, striking with his hooves to no avail against the armor of the knight. Lord Al Mighty raised his birth sword high, and called upon the Lady to guide his weapon. As Maldrik moved with unearthly speed to avoid these strikes, the Brettonian corrected himself midswing, and managed to hit where it was least expected. Blood flowed from the vampire, rage filled his eyes with madness as he attempted to launch himself onto the knight and fill his unending hunger with the human’s blood. Lord Al Mighty remained calm and shifted ever so slightly, ramming his holy sword up through the jaw of the vampire, and into the creature’s brain. As the animating magics left Maldrik, the nightmare crumbled to dust, joining the swirling sand around the battle. Lord Al Mighty severed the creature’s head as he had been taught, and staked the heart with a broken piece of Maldrik’s lance. “Such a waste of a knight”, the Brettonian lord lamented, “but I will do what I must to purge his evil soul”.
-------------------
After battle thoughts… wow Frank, this Bret is a beast in single combat! Getting to reroll to hits and wounds against the vampire, coupled with a rerollable 1+ and armor save made a VERY tough combatant for Maldrik, who is also one of the only combatants in the arena with only two wounds. As these fights often come down to the wire, an extra wound (or two in the case of ogres for example) can often spell the difference. Maldrik hit extremely hard on the charge with that S7 dreadlance autohitting. The ward save and rerollable armor save was what saved Lord Al Mighty. This fight only went to round two. The hard hitters on the charge are going to probably have shorter fights than the more endurance fighters I think.

It had been a good fight. It had been a few years since he had had such a good fight. The human had been soo much stronger anyone he had fought before, But once he wore out the human it had been much easier. He had worked up a mighty thirst in the fight, hell he would even be willing to drunk some of that firewater that Beef had again, but he hoped that there were some better drinks in the old inn that Beef had been heading to last he saw him.

Beef had taken some time to tidy up the Inn, Making sure to skewer the attendants' heads on pikes outside the door and after skinning the litter- he used sheer force to stick their skins together like tape, draping it over the door in a gruesome manner befitting one of the Plagued beast. Some blood for runes on the skin and he was sure Ivan would find where he was... After setting up a pike to roast the large and small rats upon Beef rolled over to take a nap- snoring rather loudly between moos.

Lord Al Mighty steadied his breathing and allowed his steed to rest while he dismounted and gave a prayer of thanks to the Lady for her protection and guidance. The vision, which had been so clear in his mind, had faded slightly, perhaps from the ringing blow that the vampire's lance had made upon his helm. A couple hours later, as the sun emerged from between some broken clouds, he shielded his eyes while looking across the ruins. Somewhere in the distance, the sound of combat echoed through the broken streets. Leaping astride his mount, Lord Al Mighty drew his sword and carefully moved toward the clash of arms.

The two grandmasters were mounted and riding forward within moments of hearing Iron Fist Bob’s call to Sigmar. He could not have gotten that far they thought, but the deceptive twists and turns of the ruins seemed to carry the sounds of battle from differing directions. They rode hard, hearing the priest’s yells and the clash of steel abruptly end.
Aegrum and Emillio reluctantly had followed after Vladamir, despite the blasphemous words towards Slaanesh that made Emillio pause and consider other options. There was no telling where Vladamir had gone, though the sounds of battle were a good enough indication. When they finally came upon a courtyard however, they found not the warrior they were chasing, but instead two knights of the empire reining their horses in at the sight of them.
The look of realization came over the face of the grandmasters at once. “Daemon spawn,” Everard spat, “we will purge you from this land”. The empire knights pushed down their helmets and readied a charge. Emillio laughed at the advancing grandmasters, “Oh this shall be fun”.
Everard thundered towards Emillio, the mace of Helstrum drumming with energy, glowing brighter as the knight neared the Slaanesh worshipper. The mace collided with a massive discharge of energy, knocking Emillio from the saddle of his Slaanesh steed. Emillio discharged energy of his own, the painful wracking which filled every pore of the Grandmaster of Bechafen. It was all Everard could do to keep his mace in his grip. Emillio’s attempts to capitalize on this pain were hampered by his own injury. That mace had nearly crushed him with one hit! He stole a glance to the daemon that had been at his side, but Aegrum had gone to intercept the other knight.
Aegrum’s ethereal blade passed through Ivan’s armor as if it were not there. Luckily the magics interred within the bronze shield protected Ivan from certain death. Ivan could feel the foul power of the daemon blade sap the energy from the shield. He hoped if he survived this battle that it would still be usable. Ivan’s great hammer crashed down upon the daemon, however could not harm the evil creature. Ivan’s noble steed was nearly slain by the snapping metal jaws of the juggernaut. Had it not been for a last minute correction the horse would have surely been lost.
Emillio dove under the swinging mace of Everard, coming up to swing into the saddle of his own steed once again. The weapon came within inches of the exalted warrior and would have surely ended his life if it had connected.
Aegrum meanwhile had turned the juggernaut around and was slashing at Ivan with his etherblade. Ivan felt the hot sting of the flaming blade across his ribcage, armor useless against this hellish weapon. Ivan slammed his hammer downward upon the daemon, feeling a satisfying crunch under the weapon, telling him he finally struck home. The daemon crumpled under the impact and Ivan struck again, feeling the weapon pass through Aegrum completely as the herald was banished back into the warp. The juggernaut fell with a crash, animating magics gone.
Ivan turned to his companion’s struggle in time to see Everard go snow white as the strength was ebbed from him. Emillo struck with deadly grace, impaling the grandmaster upon his blade.
Ivan screamed in rage as he turned his mount to charge Emillo. The wounded exalted warrior however, knew that he was too injured to face another combat so soon. His steed of Slaanesh bounded away from the courtyard into the swirling sand. Ivan could not hope to catch the daemonic creature and halted pursuit, returning to his dying friend. Everard was slipping away, reciting the litanies of the Templars of the everlasting light as his life force ebbed. Ivan joined his noble companion in prayer and said the last rites of safe passage to Sigmar when Everard breathed his last. Ivan put the body on the grandmaster’s steed and led him onward.
Ivan tried to follow Everard’s killer to no avail, the sand had covered all trace of passage in a matter or moments. He did come across the slain body of Iron Fist Bob lying in the sand. He draped the priest over his horse, and rode off with the bodies of his companions. He was now alone here. First he would bury these loyal followers of Sigmar. Then he would find those responsible and make them pay.
----------
After battle thoughts…. Wow… this one was close… as in Emillio and Ivan escaped the battle at one wound each, and were nearly killed. They just managed to win this one… so it made sense to have Emillio do a “tactical retreat” rather than just match the two up for round two (of course if you guys want to challenge one another go ahead… Ivan’s got a couple of grudges to settle so far… I’m not sure Emillio would be the kind of guy to actually care about the fate of his companions however). This was all over (both fights rolled independently of course) by round two, and could have easily gone either way.

"Two loyal leaders of the empire slain in one day by foul daemons....Let Sigmar banish all those who stand in my way to avenge my fallen brethren....My vengeance will not be quenched until every Daemon is cleansed with holy fire from this land.. None will stand in my way, allegiances are now set aside, for the time being I no longer fight with the states approval.. I know Sigmar will forgive me.."
