The City of Shael was once vibrant and live with trade. It's perilous location as the last port before the great sands of Laenishatar however was both it's allure, and it's ultimate undoing. Treasure seekers would use Shael as a base of operations for forays into the great desert to plunder the artefacts of the ancient cities of the dead. For many years the city flourished and grew prosperous because of this. Then came the day that an adventuring party returned with the eye of Jh'terin. This flawless diamond was larger than any other yet seen, and no treasure yet recovered from the sands came even close to it's worth. The group bartered with the merchant council of Shael, and they immediately accepted the council's initial offer, immediately leaving the city with what amounted to a fraction of the eye's worth. The council drank to the stupidity of the adventurers that evening, and as darkness fell the sands surrounding Shael began to writhe and move. When dawn finally came to the city, all that was left was smouldering fires, ruined buildings, and the corpses of every inhabitant of the once bustling metropolis.
In the decade which passed since that night, the port of Shael is avoided at all cost. Shael is a cursed city of the dead. The treasures within claimed by the sands of Laenishatar. The eye of Jh'terin lost.

Rn-n-Tech surveyed the city of sand and bones which served as his domain for this past decade. Scarabs scuttled away from the tomb king's path as he paced across the balcony of the former regent of Shael. The eye had been speaking to him in whispers these past few days, telling him of those who were coming for it. Many newcomers would soon be here, ready to steal the treasures of Shael for their own. The tomb king could not allow that to happen. He had to seal the eye in a safe location, and see the intruders dispatched. Tomb guard snapped to silent attention as he returned to the grand chamber where the eye of Jh'terin was held. He had to act fast.
-----------------------
The two grandmasters rode in silence, staring grimly at the desolate road ahead. The arch lector who accompanied them, continued without seeming to need to breathe, or stop and collect his thoughts. Everard and Ivan were both as devout as any grandmaster of the empire, however even Iron fist Bob's preaching became tiresome after a few days. Their information was very reliable, despite the filthy source of it. Daemons and their worshippers were moving to Shael, a place quarantined by Order of the emperor himself. Whatever their foul plans, they must be stopped.
----------------------------
As Sun-ya moved to dispatch the rat men, she paused at their shrieks of terror, and that the curses of doomblade upon them had finally come to pass. Sun-ya quickly disposed of the foul creatures, and found only useless baubles amongst their spoils which they undoubtedly had taken from some other poor traveller. She continued along her original path, pausing only briefly to confirm her bearings. The city of Shael was close.
------------------------
Findecano Arcamenel sighed heavily. The Brettonian was clearly mad. There was no one who could have bested as many dragons as this upstart human claimed. They had sailed for days to reach this place, the only ones on the ship who were planning on going this far. Everyone avoided Shael these days, and Findecano was unafraid of the superstitions of this place. The Bret was heading there on some noble quest (of course, aren't they always?) and the high elf knew that if a place was avoided by all, and drew knights to it's shores, this must be the place to finally have the worthy challenge he sought. He reluctantly stopped arguing the human's claims, and they made plans for at least sharing a common base of operations once they made landfall.
----------------------------
The juggernauts occasionally glared at one another defiantly as they walked. They were too well trained by their masters to risk outright battle for supremacy for the moment, but their time would come eventually. Vladamir and Aegrum shared this journey with one another fairly willingly as both sought the glory of Khorne and there would be plenty of death ahead for both. Vladamir could not understand why the daemon insisted however that they also travel with this pompous Slaanesh worshipper. Emillio could barely contain his disgust for his uncouth companions, so tried very little to mask his feelings. He would use the protection these creatures provided for a time, but once they outlived their usefulness he would rid the world of their plague as well. Aegrum the daemon was the one who orchestrated this uneasy alliance, and appeared to be fine with the fact that Emillio clearly looked down on the pair of them. That in itself was somewhat disturbing.
---------------------------
Gibgobbin urged elf eata to hop faster. He had to clear this area before those juggernauts picked up their scent or they would likely think goblin was on the menu for this evening's supper. Luckily Elf Eata had picked up a scent of his own, and was hopping hungrily in the opposite direction of the warriors of chaos. Gibgobbin thought for a moment that they may in fact be heading to the same location, but banished the idea and hoped for something a little easier to deal with. No one had been to this place in ten years. What were the chances that these warriors were headed to the same city as Gibgobbin? "Well there's no other city out here stupid!" the goblin said angrily, and then turning one more furtive glance behind him whispered "shut up you" to no one in particular.
--------------------
Mr. Doomblade continued to rant about his betrayers. He never tired of telling the rats that carried him aboard his war litter what a travesty this was, and how nothing in this world would be good enough punishment for those who stole his pretties from him. "They could be eaten by snakes!" he spat, "or beaten soundly by.... ummm.... pink lizards, yeah.... that would be embarrassing!". The bearers of the warlitter looked at one another with defeated glances. Doomblade could go on like this for days if nothing else caught his attention. They hoped for a goblin to catch their master's attention. If there was one thing he loved to crush, it was a greenskin.
--------------------
Ivan Ironskin drank more of the foul liquid. How this gorebull could live almost exclusively on this rot-gut he could never fathom. Beef might be big... he might be stupid... he might be as strong as ten dwarfs... but he had terrible taste in liqueur. Beef smiled warmly at the look of pure disgust on the chaos dwarf's face. "Don't worry little friend," he said, "the boat will land soon and your belly won't be so touchy". Ivan glared at the hideous gorebull. "It ain't the boat you igit, your firewater tastes like it's rinsed out of a stonehorn's coat". Beef's hearty laughed echoed across the rocky water.
-------------------------
Tharn'kar rode silently alongside the bloodstained knight. He and the vampire had discerned early enough on the road that they were headed to the same location. As the dark elf was clearly not the one he was looking for, Maldrik felt it was acceptable to at least share the road together. The dark elf constantly scanned both the road and the vampire. Maldrik chuckled to himself. If the drow knew how foul their blood tastes, they'd know there was nothing to fear from him. If the creature crossed him however... well he might just make an exception.

NOTE: Please remember - all discussions are in character, as in an RPG... feel free to illustrate how your character encounters, or enters the city... if there's someone you wish to challenge for round one feel free to "notice" them in the city... or in some other way state your intention... You'll see some of you are arranged in groups... at least for round one you cannot challenge someone you are grouped with... don't worry, you'll get your chance to be the last one standing so no one is safe this is for story purposes... there has to be an actual reason why a good character would turn on another good character... we'll get to that if we need to later
