Tharn’ Kar became increasingly angry as he stalked out of the stronghold. The tomb guard filling this place were completely inert, and fell to pieces at the slightest touch... completely useless to him! As he left the palace, his feet began to sink into the sand as he walked. It appeared that the winds had rose to match his mood, and sand whipped through the ruins. Tharn’Kar however was untouched by this storm, protected by a magical barrier no doubt from the gem.
The relic had been talking to him, telling him promises of what he could be, and what revenge he could exact on those who opposed him in the past. The eye of Jh’terin even told him how he could defeat even Morathi. The artifact told him that now that they were joined together, her magics could not harm him any longer.
Tharn’Kar smiled as he felt the surge of power within him “oh yes, there will be blood.”
Grandmaster Ivan the Hammer leaned forward against the damned winds of this place. He had been searching the entire day and found absolutely no further trace of chaos in this place. There was one place left, a stronghold near the centre of the city which appeared to be the house that ruled this place. The nearer he approached the more the winds whipped him. Bones sandblasted white stuck out of the deepening sand.
“Easy girl,” he urged his mount, “you’ll be okay”
Ivan spotted a figure walking with purpose away from the stronghold. It was clearly a druchii, seemingly immune to the sandstorm around him. The dark elf was smiling as he approached, and called something to him that he could not hear over the storm. When the dreadlord appeared to realize he could not hear, with a wave of his hand, the storm abruptly stopped and the windswept sand fell inert.
Tharn’Kar smiled evilly “That’s better. Now step aside human and I may spare you. There is nothing for you at all here, only death.” The dreadlord continued to walk forward, seemingly unconcerned about the knight’s presence. In truth, he was just closing the distance. Tharn’Kar had no intention of allowing this human to live.
With a cry to Sigmar, Ivan charged.
Tharn’Kar barely felt the impact of Ivan’s great hammer as it thudded into his chest. The eye of Jh’terin whispered to him, telling him that he would be protected and shielded, that he had nothing to fear. The dreadlord could tell by the human’s face that he had fully expected to drop him with this charge. Tharn’Kar ignored the steel shod hooves of the mount that sparked off his armor. He was invincible.
Tharn’Kar swung his great weapon with a strength he had never felt before. The human’s armor protected him, but he was knocked sprawling from his mount. Ivan rolled in the soft sand unharmed and to his feet in an instant. He felt a clawing at the inside of his skull like something was either trying to talk to him, or dig its way out.
“I am greater than any you’ve faced before,” Tharn’Kar hissed as he strode towards him, “and soon I will rule all of the druchii, and your kind will bow before me as your master”.
Ivan slammed his hammer against the dark elf, finally penetrating the solid defenses of the armor. Tharn’Kar’s amulet did not glow however, remaining dull and lifeless. Tharn’Kar Diavilios swore he could hear mocking female laughter.
“No matter”, Tharn’Kar spat as the horses’ hooves once again were deflected off his armor, “I don’t need her help anymore”.
The dreadlord struck again and again with his great weapon, forcing Ivan backwards with the sheer power of the blows. Ivan felt the pain of his shoulder wound re-opening and bit back a scream, dropping his shield involuntarily.
Ivan grasped his hammer with both hands, sending what little strength he had left into a downward arc upon the dark elf. With a thunderous crack, Tharn’Kar’s armor separated at the shoulder and his arm fell useless at his side. The force of the assault knocked him to his knees. Ivan then reversed and crushed the dark elf’s skull. Tharn’Kar fell dead to the sand, the look of incredulous shock still on his face.
Ivan, heaving from the exertion, pulled a glowing gem from the dreadlord’s dying grasp. That scratching sensation again, whispered promises of power, and revenge. He could use this artifact to crush chaos once and for all, to bring to ruin all those who oppose Sigmar. Ivan could feel his wounds knitting and the strength returning to him. He would use this evil relic for good. He would bring peace to the empire. Then he would relinquish the gem to the archlector’s for safe keeping. He was sure he was strong enough to resist it’s lure.
“Yes” he thought, smiling despite himself “there will be blood.”

After battle thoughts:
Well for all the strength of the black amulet, a hard counter is the trickster’s shard, which definitely played a major role in this battle, short though it was. Everyone else who had fought Tharn’Kar before had to worry about every saved wound… Ivan therefore had a bit of an edge in this regard (although despite his own 1+/4++ he didn’t come out of this unscathed!). On top of this, Ivan’s weapon although only S4, forced a T test or ignored the armor. This was the only way Ivan could really hurt Tharn’Kar, as the 1+/4++ doesn’t exactly get scared by S4! But having a dark elf make a toughness test is not exactly an easy feat, and when that 4++ is force rerolled… well you see what happened….
Hope everyone enjoyed the arena… it was fun to run… and there’ll be another in the spring if we have interest again! ;D
