wow... that is all rather terrifying... flat 4 attacks on possessed with plague weapons combined with higher toughness? OUCH. An additional attack and wound on plague marines? WS/BS 3+ on freaking daemon engines! wow!
Death guard were in a really good spot before this... they're going to be brutal to face now!

Ya assuming that Plague Marines end up on the 23-24 pt range. They might be my top pick for best all round troop choice. @ wounds on the 3+/5+++ is just creditable for the damage 2 weapon meta that Imp. Marines have caused. A heavy bolter only has a 33% chance of killing a single marine, which is crazy for a S5 assault 3 weapon.
I have yet to come close to beating my friends jacks death guard with both tau and orks so this will not help me in that match up.
The one thing I will say is that with some of these changes I'm going to guess that the warlord Arch-contaminator will be changed/gone. There will be way too much re-roll wounds other wise for things like possessed.

There will be way too much re-roll wounds other wise for things like possessed. I'm thinking it'll stay but be a targeted buff that you can give to a single unit or "X" units within range. Much like the LT buff that allows them to give re-rolls to a certain unit. I do agree though that they're likely in an insane spot, but they should really have their points adjusted up to account for the added durability and combat output 2W and 2A gives them. Flails will be freaking brutal. 5 Man squad, 2 flails per; each flail handing out 2D3 swings at S6 // AP-2 // D=2 with excess damage spilling through to the remainder of the unit.

I'm sure it will switch to "core" units only... but still that's going to be crazy good since plague marines will undoubtedly be core.

T8 makes total sense... being nurgle *gives side-eye to my GUO who is the same toughness as the scrawny keeper*

When daemons get a new book, I can't see then NOT giving te GUO T8. It's a travesty that it wasn't T8 to begin with!

I've been playing 1k point games against death guard at 2 wounds. I can tell you from experience they are brutal as hell. Harley's walking up and smacking a 5 man squad of plague marines with 20 str 5 ap-2 d 2 hits (strat) with re rolling wounds. Killed 2 sure my dice rolling is horrible at best but still. I used to be able to take the squad out. Oh and I feel bad for necron players going up against them, your going to need some serious stamina

Gets around that pesky feel no pain issue.
The guy is looking more and more like a needed auto-include in lists.

I used to be able to take the squad out. Oh and I feel bad for necron players going up against them, your going to need some serious stamina To be fair, marines took a 20% points increase per model for things bumped to W2 (For example, Tac Marines went from 15pts to 18pts) For Plague Marines who are already 18 points each and get a free plague knife, I'd fully expect them to land somewhere closer to 23-25 points each given they are getting both an extra wound AND an extra attack. Which would bump a minimum squad with no upgrades from 90 points to the 115-125 range. That's a SIGNIFCANT change to say the least across the 15 to 30 plague marines people will be looking to put in lists. I expect a very large number of models receiving all these "crazy buffs" will look a lot less insane once we see points costs. Death Guard are meant to be an elite fighting force, and I expect model count to drop given the countless buffs we have already seen officially confirmed. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But I don't believe Death Guard need any help right now, they are already very competitive imo. So buffs like this are happening for a reason. (It's all very likely as part of the core/aura rework, but only GW knows for now)

www.warhammer-community.com/2020/12/04/death-guard-release-delayed-in-the-warp/Looks like Death Guard won't be released until 2021. We also got a look at Mortarion's new rules - T8 is going to be huge in a meta filled with Eradicators, and more consistent damage with the scythe is welcome. Getting a Chapter Master reroll ability is big, especially since he no longer benefits from his own Lord aura. Losing out on 6" of Lantern range, and the old Host of Plagues is sad. He'll represent a much less serious AoE threat, and in 9th he's going to struggle to make it past screens. Of course, we don't know what Toxic Presence means exactly. All in all, a bit of a mixed bag. Still going to rely on Warptime to get things done, especially since now he must be the Warlord.
