I've tried a magnifier before, and I didn't like it. I found it got in the way more than anything, and couldn't really find the proper sweet spot for it to magnify enough without being a blurry mess. May I ask what kind of magnifier you use? Is it a headset type, where the lens goes over your eye likes glasses, or a stationary type? Also, eyelashes? Are you just doing insanely small details on a Warhammer model, or is this some other project using bigger models from somewhere else? Either way, that's impressive. As for P3 paints, I think I recall seeing them at Nexus way back, but I don't know if they still carry them or not. How about this: I'm going to Nexus today or tomorrow anyway, so I'll make sure to check to report back here for you. Also, might as well give an update while I'm here. I'm still at the painting, so that's good. Really impressed and pleased with myself for not missing any days since December 1st. I have hit a snag though: Batch painting 17 models at once is a pain. So, I split it into two groups. The 6 bigger guys in one group, and the 10 smaller plus the leader guy in another. Seems to be helping that way. I just recently finished base coating a certain detail on the big guys, and a bit later I'll do that same detail on the others. Once these 17 guys are eventually done, varnished, and based, I'll take pictures to post in the appropriate area in the Age of Sigmar section here, as well as finally say what the army actually is. Might as well, as the cat will be out of the bag with the pictures anyway, hahaha.

I find that large batches can be a tough depending on the complexity and detail of the paint steps. I have done some Bolt Action batches of 30 that were tough but it worked because the colours were forgiving. Others and over five and I get frustrated.
I have tried modifying the batch where I start with a big batch for the base coat and then work in smaller batches of five for the fine work where I need to be focused.
I find that painting the eyes can be diminishing returns outside a wash. Space marine lenses are fine, but human eyes are tough at this scale!

Yeah, I had originally done all 17 at once when it was easy. An all over colour of this, an all over wash, followed by an all over dry brush of another colour. Now that I'm moving onto smaller details, it is indeed easier to do smaller batches.

I would definitely break things up more if I had to do my tzaangors again. 30 was fine for the skin. A bunch of airbrush and then highlights by hand. When it got to the armour and details, that 30 block became quite painful. I think doing 10s or 5s is my preferred method. Big groups might sound more efficient and faster in the long run, but not if you end up burning yourself out and set aside the paint brush for three months after.
Sounds like you're on a real roll though!

Looks like a fair bit has been going on so:
1) the eyes I'm working on are on a 6" tall bisque figurine my wife gave me last Christmas. It is the smaller of two, the larger being Santa seated in a large chair with a child on his knee. Quite a bit different from my usual 40K fare. The plan had been to finish both pieces by Christmas but losing time to covid and its' aftereffects has screwed that schedule. Still, even if I finish the first and have the Santa piece colour blocked for Christmas I will count that a success, all things considered.
2) I bought my P3s at Nexus before Mike dropped the line. I just prefer to buy local if I can. 3) I use either a headset or ring-lit magnifier depending on what I am doing. Occasionally I also use jewelers loupes. The magnification you can get on those suckers is wicked.
4) If I am looking at batch painting I spray lots at once for base coating (almost 200 one autumn) and then work in smaller lots, identifying 10-20 for a unit but usually broken in to groups of 5. I find slogging through 10 or more at once a dis-incentive and it seems that I am not the only one who feels that way.
That's it for now. Keep on slugging guys!

So yeah, was just at Nexus, and no P3. I'm pretty sure it's the same at SBT over in the westend.
I can look around online and see if I can find some websites with them for you if you would like.

Thanks for looking and letting me know. I have online sources identified but I prefer to buy locally if I can. Thought it might be worth asking.

The 6 bigger guys are done!
Well, sort of. Still need to varnish and then base them, but the actual painting on them is done.

Oh, in regards to the P3 paints again, is it possible that Action Packed would have any? I do know they carry some Warhammer stuff, so it's possible they have some various paints.
In this case I can't really go to check, as it's hard to find parking around there, hahaha.

Thanks! I never think of them. I will give them a call some time and ask.

Well, since I got the 6 bigger guys done. I decided to take pictures of them and post them. I put it in the AoS painting area. Because of this, I'll finally say what they are. I'll also link to them at the bottom of this post. They are Flesh Eater Courts models. With these 6 guys, that makes 16 fully painted models for the army so far. I think they are turning out well. Feel free to take a look at them. Or don't, nobody is forcing you, hahaha. kingstonwarhammer.proboards.com/thread/13097/flesh-eater-court-guys

Thank you both. While I'm here, an update. I still haven't missed any days, but since finishing those Horrors I've been a bit less productive. All I've managed to do since I posted them here is varnish them and start work on their bases. Well, as long as I'm getting something done I suppose. I think I need to do something that isn't painting for a bit. Today (Saturday for those from the future looking back on these posts for whatever reason) I plan to finish the bases at least. On Sunday, rather than continuing the painting of the 11 guys I've got on the desk, I think I'll assemble a really big thing (In sub assemblies, as it looks like fully assembled would make it a pain to reach certain areas in order to paint them). This will give me a break from painting, while still allowing me to do hobby stuff. If anyone is wondering, the really big thing is a Terrorgheist or Zombie Dragon (Not sure which build I'll do yet). Also, seeing as how it's nearly 4am right now, all I have to say is that insomnia sucks.

We all need a change from what we are doing sometimes. When that feeling hits is unpredictable but I find listening to it prevents feeling like I am slogging through a tedious task. The original project will still be there when I need a change again. Good luck with the new build.
