Thanks for the info on the varnish.
Seeing as I don't own any gloss varnish, and can't buy any at the moment, I'll just apply a second coat of the matte varnish.

Goobertown Hobbies did a fun YouTube video that explores the question of different varnishes, in a very scientific manner... Lol youtu.be/1hRYhns1h3Q

Forgot to post here.
I've been able to keep up the streak. I put a second coat of matte varnish on those models, so they should be good to go now. In addition, I started to paint the models I had assembled and primed. Sadly, I was only able to start on 4 of the 17 (I wanted to be able to do 6). The reason for this is that I ran out of the paint I was using for my basecoat.
Stopped by Nexus today for some paints, so I can do the first basecoat on those other models as well now. 🙂 Will start shortly.

Congratulations on your continuing success Stepwise!
Just over a month ago I said I was starting on a Christmas project. Since then our older son has visited from BC as a surprise for his brother's birthday, I've withdrawn from Secret Santa for family reasons, and immediately after my son returned to the coast both my wife and I contracted covid. All is well, we are both over the illness but dealing with the after-effects of extreme fatigue and a bit of brain fog.
This morning I finally found the energy and inclination to apply the base coat to the first figure. Hopefully I can get some of the basic colour blocking done this afternoon. (Maybe tomorrow. Long naps have assumed a new significance in our lives.) At least I am finally underway but skeptical of my chances of finishing both pieces in time for Christmas.

I'm glad to hear that you recovered. Hopefully the lingering aftereffects go away soon.

Got some more painting in today. I just checked, and I started this on December 1st. I've been on a roll for a bit over a week now. This is the most days in a row I've ever done. It feels nice to be at it again.

Day 2 and most of the colour blocking is done on the first piece. Tomorrow I hope to finish that and start some of the detail work. Not used to this scale anymore so I'm re-learning a sense of what size brushes & paint consistency I need to do this type of project.

Hot damn, my streak of days worked continues. Did some painting at noon today, and will do some more after supper.

Well done!
I was a bit overly optimistic with my project. Even with a base coat the bisque still seems to soak up a lot of paint. So I've done a re-coat for two of my main colours and will see how they take. Otherwise, glad I felt up to a third day of painting.

How has the recovery from the aftereffects been going?

Thanks for asking. The fatigue is easing VERY slowly as is the brain fog. I have a nasty feeling the persistent cough (a painful annoyance for an asthmatic) will be hanging about for some time. But at least I'm feeling the inclination to hobby so that's good.

Day 41: Finished Sequitors and Evocators- Airbrush Undercoat and Basecoat on Flesh Tearers Death Company Dreadnought Day 42: Edge highlighting on Dreadnought, Red on strips and details, Leadbelcher and Stegadon Scale Green on talons Day 43: Retributor Gold on 4 Flesh Tearers Sanguinary Guard (2 coats), Reikland Fleshshade// Black on Outriders Day 44: Grey on wings, Apothecary White Contrast paint on wings, Red on details, Leadbelcher Day 45: Cleanup on Sanguinary Guard and Outriders - bases - done! Day 46: 40K Secret Santa Tourney! Came home and painted Gold on 4 more Sanguinary Guard and a Sanguinary Ancient//Wash Day 47: Wings on Sanguinary Guard, Red, cleanup, Apothecary White on wings
Switching to Flesh Tearers was a fun little side quest. These models had been assembled and undercoated two years ago and then sat in a box. The upcoming tourney energized me to finish them for my son. Painting gold armour was not a real change for me, but the wings were something different!
This year's Hobby Streak has been about hobbying every day as opposed to attaining a painting goal. I did take stock, though, and I am sitting around 8,400 points including Bolt Action (similar points per model to 40K and Sigmar).
I have some Stormcast to finish (mostly characters), a 30K Spartan and some more undercoated Flesh Tearers in my painting line-up so we'll see where we end up. Main goal is to keep the streak alive until the end of the year.

The changes I made to paint and brushes yesterday seem to have worked. Much better coverage and am going over the piece under a magnifier looking for missed spots. Hopefully will be moving on to the eyes (I HATE doing eyes!) tomorrow. I expect that eyelashes will also be something I will hate doing. But onward ho! (BTW, anybody know a local supplier who carries P3 paints?)
