there's 12 warriors in that box.
seems like a good value, especially because the barge kit also makes the catacomb command barge

That’s a really good box for beginners getting into Necrons. 2 troops , 1 fast attack, 1-2 hq, and 0-1 heavy. I approve.

holy crap... destroyers got an extra shot!!!!
yeah this codex might as well be called Codex: Shannon's Necrons
oh, and Mephrit is clearly superior... I think anything remotely competitive will be using this dynasty.
they're kind of overstating the d-lord though... if I want a combat capable fast warlord to reach out and bad-touch someone with the void reaper it'll be a CCB lord to get wave of command, quantum shielding, the same combat potential with higher toughness and more wounds!

yeah always been a heavy weapon (destroyers just ignore the movement penalty)... an extra shot and extra strength is just icing on the cake
... I own 18 painted destroyers... so yeah, this is big news for me!

*dons tin foil hat*
I get the feeling there's some sort of conspiracy or bet going on inside GW to see how many yellow necrons Shannon will paint before he "goes crazy" and becomes a Necron! DUN DUN DUNNNNN
*takes off tine foil hat*
I agree this is probably the competitive trait, +1 AP is a HUGE deal. Is Gauss still Rapid-Fire as well or was it converted to assault?
It's almost like Shannon is a time traveller and knew his Necron Army would become an unstoppable force years in the future! *stares at tin foil hat again*

Damn, I love the idea of an army just owning midrange shooting like that. If basic Gauss stayed -1, being at -2 AP with standard Warriors or Ghost Arks inside of 12" is pretty darn boss. Not to mention actual AP on Gauss weapons.

In regards to melee-specced HQs if the final codex keeps the Lighting field relic, I'd definitely put that on the CCB. 3+ save, 4+ invul and quantum shielding that you can buff with a stratagem? Even if he's stuck with the 'mundane' scythes, that is a very tanky character.
Also Entropic strike makes throwing C'Tans or other heavy-damage melee characters against monsters like Celestine/Guilliman viable. Because previously you were always needing mass weight of fire to get past the invul saves. Now? People will have to think harder about charging that Necron force with the Overlord embedded inside.
The biggest draw back to Mephrit that I can see is that they have to be within 12" for most Necron units to get that bonus -1AP. Means you need a good screening force or you'll be constantly charged and there hasn't been any indication of a 'fall-back-and-shoot' stratagem. To me it looks like destroyers and tomb blades will get the most benefit out of this trait.

I think the key there is to hit in waves, and pick your targets well. Most armies don't have a *big* close combat presence anymore, and even if they do you can do something like Veil in a unit of 20 warriors with My Will Be Done, wreck something, then let them very specifically absorb the return fire as you get a unit of Immortals into range or counter-charge with Wraiths, and then follow that up with Destroyers and Tomb Blades flitting on the outside.
Controlling what your opponent is going to target is at least as big a factor in winning games as picking what *you* are going to target, and I really think it's something a lot of players miss out on. You're always going to lose units, *ESPECIALLY* in 8th ed, and too often I see gameplans built around the idea that a certain unit/combination of units will somehow be ignored. Necron Wraiths are often top of the list, honestly - if I see a unit of Wraiths approaching me, I'm going to erase them no matter what, unless there's something else specifically requiring attention first. So at that point, *know* that your first couple waves of units are going to be destroyed, and use it to your advantage. Chewing through 20 Warriors still isn't *easy*, and even if they don't necessarily kill their points value back (which I fell like they would at -2AP), doing some damage and then controlling the enemy's attention for a whole turn still seems super worth it.

yeah it's only the first attack now with entropic strike... if you're hitting with a D6 damage you're good... but even warscythes are just 2... not really worth the CP I don't think... and certainly isn't going to challenge a tanky imperial character.
Plus you have to choose the stratagem before you roll... and it says "attack" not hit... so you still have to hit and wound first... on a C'tan - sure... on a 3+/3+ d-lord hit for 2 damage? not reliable enough for me.
Feel free to put the tinfoil hat back on Ray... I got it right with tyranids (who Jay advised me MANY years ago to not pick as my first army - which took 10 years to be viable) and now with my destroyer crons. That's 2 for 20 in my army choices being viable given enough time... move over Nostradamus! I got skills!
